  • DSG confusion

Hi guys I have noticed some strange behaviour with our DSG T5.1 Yesterday I drove up to a place just out of Brisbane {Mt Glorious}2000ft above sea level on the way up a few times I was aware of what appeared to be some odd feeling in the gear changes . I would be driving uphill and then have to back off mid acceleration I can only describe the feeling is if the auto is confused about what gear it should be in , the terrain is a combination of uphill climbs and short downhill gullies with curves etc so there was a need to back off sometimes as you would round a corner to find a downhill slope . Any clues I will admit it is probably just a unique quirkiness of the DSG trying to out think the driver as it cannot see the terrain change but the driver does and reacts accordingly .

It's trying to adapt to, and anticipate what you're doing at the same time.

Might've been easier to flick it over into the +/- gate and manually shift it for that portion of the journey. That way it would've held your chosen gear.

I think you are right smart technology that is not as smart as it should be , I was always sceptical about a transmission that would try and outsmart the human brain , yes I know it can change in a nano second but then it gets confused sigh .
