Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2.5 T5 Manual 170000kms what fluids should I change and links to how please.

    Hi Guys.
Had my T5 for close to a year, changed the oil and filter twice now, but what else should I be changing, checking? Oh I changed the coolant too.
Is there a diesel filter? or drain?
    Gearbox, transfer oil change when?
    Anything else important?
Please send how to links. I am competent, just not that T5 knowledgeable.
    Thanks in advance.

Do you still have your service schedule booklet it will give you the items that should be changed at each interval . If not I can look them up for you .

Major service is due at 180,000km.

        Engine oil and filter
        Fuel filter
        Air filter
        Pollen filter
Auto trans oil and filter (if auto)
        Haldex coupling oil (if 4Motion)

Manual transmission, bevel box (4Mo), and rear diff (4Mo) are supposedly filled for life, so change as you see fit.

I think the Gates couplings on the air con compressor and alternator are due at 180,000kms as well.

          Cheers guys.
Is there a water drain on the diesel filter?
Gearbox is feeling a bit less flowy to change, is it oil change or do they get loose couplings?

Try changing the oil in the gearbox, and see how that goes.

No water drain on the filter. If you suspect water ingress, replace the filter. They're about $90.
