Hey Sunny

I bought a MY13 T5 and the previous owner had installed a clarion nx702a unit - quite possibly the most annoying unit I have ever used. It does however have gps, Bluetooth, Reverse camera and DTV. The radio reception is ****e though. Although I have heard you can take a car still under warranty to VW and they will fix it as its a known issue.

Anyway I'm interested in these Units you are talking about - is it possible to reuse the gps antenna, reverse camera and dtv antenna that were put in with the clarion?

I am also in the process of retrofitting a MK7 MFSW (golf not sirocco so it's MQB based) - are they compatible?

How hard was the camera hookup for you? I've got a 2011 T5 - I'm liking the look of this unit but will it fit?

camera for this unit was easy with the supplied cable (tight on the LWB tho) hardest bit is getting it in the boot lid via the rubber tube. just get a long stick and push it along inside the roof lining, down the left pillar and across the dash. camera is also powered by the radio and the power cable is part if the video cable. just find an earth for the camera. camera came fitted to one of the plastic plate lights that you just swap out so it looks factory.

swapped out as i wanted nav in the dash. I'm happy as with the unit. has all the canbus functions built into the radio i've never had. even says how many liters of fuel is left in the tank

The reason I ask is that he has it listed as suitable for Transporter T5 from 2004 to present and anyone who knows Transporters will also know that the dash is different from 2010 onwards and that unit will only fit 2010 onwards NOT models before the update .

Is this what they call T5.1?
There is T5.1 and 2. I dont know what this means.Was this change the first of the 2L?

Yes the new one is the 2.0 litre either single or twin turbo . So that unit will fit , I am currently upgrading my system in my 2005 at the moment will post photos when finished its a doozy .

Two clocks am I missing something ?? okay if you know the two T5 models the early series has a 6inch rectangular head unit in double din size , the later 2010 onwards has the oblong shape wider at the top than the bottom . Now if you look real close the air con dials are the older type with cables to open and close vents etc. The later has electric ones and are smaller . What I did was to buy the later series top of dash and facia from a 2010 on model then cut very carefully along the "creased " line which you can see on the later ones . Then cut off the top part of the old facia as the dials cannot be changed , after some very careful cutting and delicate sanding I was able to mate up the two parts to make it fit neatly . I did have to cut some of the inner plastic away to remount the new unit but as you can see it worked quite well . The reason for this was that the old 6 inch models are Windows based operating and the new one is the very latest Android and is miles in front on features . Phones can be mirror linked so both screens can be mirrored at the same time you can then control all the phones functions via the screen . DVR camera is part of the system so you can record to a 64gid SD card and take photos and playback video on the unit , GPS with the very latest mapping plays DVD's and data discs . Surf the internet when within Wi Fi range and you can update apps etc . The icing on the cake for me was I decided to go digital by adding a Pure Highway DAB tuner that's the little digital screen below the radio , it connects directly through a USB cable run internally to the rear of the headunit . I am not normally a fan of radio but as I have discovered lately there are loads of stations who play just music with no adds and no annoying supposedly funny announcers . News on the hour and the odd promo for the station ID and then just great music in high quality sound .
As I am keeping this one for a while I was also trying to source a Multi van steering wheel so I can integrate the wheel controls into the head unit but no luck just yet .
