Wondering if anyone has any tips towards getting better than average wheel alignment? Are rear wheels alignable?

Rears are apparently as when I replaced some tyres recently the fitter told me they had done the rears because it was out of whack [not my fault missus clipped a]curb }

G-day My local steering & wheel alignment shop told me their is a camber adjustment kit made for Merc-Sprinter that will also fit T5 - this adjust-ability corrects for our drive on the left of sometimes dome topped roads to reduce any pulling to the left with the resulting tyre scrub, might be worth investigating - good luck.

Has anyone fitted the Merc-Sprinter camber adjustable kit to a 2010+ Multivan or know of any kit that can allow adjustment to the front end, I would be very interested.
If this kit can allow an improved wheel alignment, this will be on my list for immediate purchase.
Any pictures would be appreciated.

I do not know if I remember correctly, but i thought I saw it on Alignment invoice that front-camber has been adjusted. Perharps front camber adjustment is already standard fit?

T5 Steering alignment kit - Nolathane / Pedders

Hi Tiguan,

Today I've learnt of a kit that is marketed to suit the V.W. Transporter T5, Front Lower Control Arm. The kit consists of a nolathane bush & a steel off-set bored sleeve that fits inside of the nolathane bush. The Pedders Suspension Company sells the kit for $114:00 Pt. No. EP 6565 VW Transporter 4/03-On F/L/C/Arm Rear (which isn't too bad), though the fitment & alignment will be the costly part of the exercise. On the web, the kit can be seen on the "Nolathane" website, as they are the manufacturer of the bushes as PT. No. 45565.
NB: On the Nolathane site, they market them as "Alignment correction - rectify vehicle pulling to the left / off centre steering wheel. To correct wheel alignment, optimise castor settings & maintains steering geometry & crisp handling.

The Pedders Employee, I spoke with, believes that the T5 Transporter & the T5 Multivan have the same lower control arm (I cannot confirm this, at this stage).

I'll continue to do my homework, though if there is anyone that can assist, I would be appreciative of the input.

If you doubt that the rear can get out of alignment check out the photo on my post from yesterday .The damage could not be seen from the side of the van , I suppose if I had bothered to crawl under the van a bit I would have seen the wear months ago .

Thanks for the part number of these adjustable bushes, I wish they had been known about or available when I had my rear front bushes replaced. From new my kombi beach had a bad pull to the left, and it seems to be caused by there being much more caster on the left front wheel. I have suspected that the van is made this way so it steers straight when driven on the right hand side of the road with the road camber to the right.

I have improved mine vastly by just loosening the bolts for the front and rear bushes and using the slack, pull the left front hub rearwards and the right front hub forwards to the limit of the slack then retighten. The caster error on mine could be measured as a difference in the distance between the tyre and wheelarch on either side and they differed by about 5-10mm. This also causes the load on the steering wheel to be more to turn right than to turn left.

These bushes would allow all of these problems to be corrected easily. I may buy a set for when mine wear out again, although the red rubber material seems to be lasting well.

I'm wondering if any of the above discussion might throw some light on a left front tyre wear issue I've experienced from new. The outside edge wears much more than the inside edge - the RHS front tyre wears as one would hope ... evenly across its full width. And yes, I've had the bloody thing aligned several times... to no avail. I've been fed on one occasion the dubious story that as "70% of turns are to the right" - greater wear occurs on the outside of the LHS tyre. This I reckon is crap - it doesn't show up on our #2 car and for that matter on any other car I've had in the last several decades. Any suggestions out there? And BTW, I've been told there isn't a camber adjustment kit available for our 2011 T5 - any advice on that?

You need to replace the bushes in the lower control arms with urathane ones that have an eccentric insert, as per the post further up the page, if you want camber adjustment.

My van absolutely trashes front tyres. I'd recommend staying on top of the tyre pressures, and rotote them at regular intervals.

See the tyre thread for my van experience, my rears went really quickly due to alignment issues. Hopefully it's sorted now after visiting a decent workshop.
