Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 20 Inch tyres for T5

    Dear All

I've inherited a set of 20" rims from my business partner's T5. Having just fitted B14 Coil overs (-45mm) I'm inspired to improve the handling even further. I've searched the forum and seen reference to load rated 20" tyres but do not know if they are just an albino whale or not!

Could anyone throw some light on load rating and 20" tyres or what is a good tyre to fit?

BTW I don't regularly carry heavy loads in fact I virtually never carry heavy loads.

    Cheers

    Michael

I would imagine that with the B14's on the van the 20inch wheels may not be a successful marriage . Low profile tyres / wheel combinations are going to give you a better than normal road holding grip but the comfort will probably go south further than Tasmania . Now please this is only from personal experience with a short lived affair with 18's on low profiles and it was not a happy affair . You can feel every matchstick and pebble that you drive over through the van .

Hi Sunny - I'm expecting a decrease in comfort. I've driven the 2010 T5 that they are currently on and it was more comfortable than my T5 pre B14 and not as jarring as I expected but then it has stock suspension. Currently shod with 255/45 which apparently will slightly raise the van. Perhaps 45 series are more forgiving than what 20's are commonly shod with???
