I have a 2006 T5 4 Motion which has done approx. 130,000 Kms. When changing up from 2nd to 3rd it does not change smoothly, some grinding during gear changes. Going into 3rd is the only gear where this occurs. I have drained the G/B oil into a clean container and have not seen any contamination. I then put new oil in and still have the same problem. I think the syncro needs to be replaced? Can anyone recommend a gear box repair place with a good reputation?

T5 Double offroad
Hello - you did-not say if it was the same when going into 3rd from 4th or if it was different hot or cold - it could most lightly be the sinchromesh made of bronze parts - an oil analysis will help to predict a fault. the job will cost very much more than a new syncromesh - I have been inside my gearbox a couple of times and it is a long time consuming job - the subframe has to be taken out first - it's a bit involved - if you can find a g-box place that has done one before. Best of luck.Originally posted by huroy View PostI have a 2006 T5 4 Motion which has done approx. 130,000 Kms. How long do you own your T5? What gear oil did you use? The specs and brand?Originally posted by huroy View PostI have a 2006 T5 4 Motion which has done approx. 130,000 Kms. I have owned this van for 5 years and it had 56,000 km on the clock when I bought it. The Oil I used was bought from VW, comes in a 1 litre container. The No. on the container is G 052 171 A2. The oil has a very low viscosity. 2.7 litres to fill the G/box. Originally the problem with 3rd gear wasn't noticeable when the oil was cold but now its gradually got worse and doesn't matter if its hot or cold.Originally posted by Transporter View PostHow long do you own your T5?
