  • what engine does it have / good source for parts at good prices

we did recently bought a 99 tdi t4, and i need to order some parts, i found the locations of the engine number but i don't think i can read it with out pulling the engine out, is there another way of finding out what engine there is in this unit, i got a vin number ?

second second question, where do i order parts at good prices, where do other members go to ?
do you buy with oz or overseas ?

If you go to a VW parts dept. & quote your VIN No, assuming it has the original engine, they can tell you all about your van. I have been to our transport checking station to have the rego. transferred from NSW plates to SA on two vans. In both occasions they have tried to read the no. on the block & given up. They accepted the no. on the top of the cam cover, printed on a sticker.
If the original books came with your van, the engine no. should be inside the service booklet. It should also be on your rego papers.
For parts, I use Imparts locally [if it's large & heavy] or I try Ebay UK. Always check the VW parts price first. I was quoted almost double for a cambelt for my Mk5 Golf from HSY that I could buy from VW.

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
