Getting back to the new Mercedes vans. The 7-speed auto mentioned in conjuntions with the highest-spec engines only, meaning that the rest of the range may continue with the current 5-speeder.

Also, for the passenger version (Viano versus Multivan), MB still has not fixed any of the fundamental problems (since this is just a major facelift of MB, not a new platform):
    * still no side/curtain airbags for 2nd and 3rd rows (Multivan has both).
    * still no dedicated roof or side vents for 2nd or 3rd rows. MB has only limited floor vents between 1st and 2nd rows. (Multivan has air ducts in the roof cavity with vents for 2nd and 3rd rows, as well as sides of floor vents in the 2nd/3rd row area.)
    Multivan MY12 TSI350 Red. Previous: 2008 Tiguan 103Tdi. 2010 Tiguan 125TSi.

The rumours on the German based T5 board say the T6 will have a 3.0L capacity, 4 cylinder TDI with the Amarok's 8-speed automatic gearbox.

That should mean the logitudinal drivetrain configuration.

I hope not with rear wheel drive as the main reason we stay with VW is that it gives best inside headroom clearance for loading wheelchairs whacking a diff underneath may change all that . Although a 3.0 is sounding very nice .

Do you have that problem with a current 4motion T5, because if not then I would hope that isn't a problem in the future?

No ours is conventional front drive only , when Mercedes released their new model Vito back in 2004 just a few months before the T5 hit the streets we measured one up and it was lower in the head room area so we waited for the T5 , don't have a need for any other drive train . I suppose I will take our van anywhere I feel confident that we will not be exceeding its and our capabilities , but you are right the 4 motion probably does not have any changes to internal dimensions would it .

The 4motion is impossible for wheelchair passenger use due to being four wheel drive. The Vito you could modify but it meant that you had to increase the roof height and the rear ramp was too steep for electric wheelchairs and the suspension was too stiff. The front-wheel drive VW Caravelle, Multivan and Transporters are the best vehicles for wheelchair passengers and drivers at this point

I agree Wheelie access into and inside the T4and The T5 was the main reason we stayed with the VW . I have never measured up a 4 motion so I cannot comment .

I don't think that the 4Motion is that much higher of the ground.
...and it's the same dimensions inside as 2WD.

A mate just picked up a 2014 Ford Transit.
Thing is fully loaded and cost him $35K. Had pop up roof racks (never even knew this was possible!) and has cruise, bluetooth and all the trimmings included as standard. Even looks the part too.
The new T6 better step it up because some of these other vans are starting to catch up, maybe even overtake a little?

I'm sure when the new T6 comes in 2020 it will once again leave it's opposition in the dust.

In the value department the T5 has been left behind for a while now, it's getting old and sales have dropped significantly. It's only saving grace is it still drives better then most and has good power with an "auto" option.
