  • T4 driver's seat is set way too high...

    Hi again,

My 2003 T4 has no height adjustment - and being nearly 6'2" (what's that, nearly 190cm?) I find myself sitting uncomfortably high, with a great view of the sun visors etc.

Without spending a truck load, what can I do to remedy this?

Did any T4 models have a height adjustable drivers seat?

I've heard that most Audi seats will fit my T4, providing they have a flat base. Any thoughts on that and if it's true, best model/s to target?

Or does anyone have another suggestion please?

    Ta, Dubswin.

Hello again from your other posting you seem to ask the questions I have some experience with , I cannot say for certainty that any T4's had height adjustable function if they did you would be best check a Caravelle as it is the top specified model .You may need to replace the whole seat and its mounting base as they will be different to a standard one it will bolt to the original holes though . As for fitting another seat whilst possible you should get an engineering certificate for legal and safety reasons , if registered in NSW it is pretty cut and dried that you will need to use an approved fitter to certify the job with an engineers certificate $$$$. If Qld registered you only need an authorised officers certificate for an alternate seat but it must be fitted to same standards as factory and of equivalent age or later . You can do the fitting yourself and make sure its a good job and then get it certified . How much height difference are you hoping for , as I used to be a motor Trimmer {retired don't open up that wound } we used to lower seats by cutting away some of the seat foam in the base naturally there is only so much that can be removed before reducing comfort too much , but it did work as well . As a worst case scenario a couple of sports seat Recaro/ Corbeau /Sparco etc may be another option as most of these have an open base design which would work well in a Transporter .

      Hi Sunny 43.5,

Thanks for your very detailed response, I do appreciate that.

Being a Trakka conversion my van has a swivelling passenger seat. I noticed the other day that it actually sits about 15mm below the level of my seat, so maybe the go is to get one of those fitted. It's not a huge reduction but much better than nothing, so will check that out.

      cheers,

      Dubswin.

I would have thought the revolving seat would have been higher as you have to have two base plates is the passengers seat a standard VeeDub one or has it been changed ?

I was sitting here watching Tv and I had flash , now the T4 sits on a steel base frame , I might suggest the easiest way to lower the seat with minimal work would be to remove the seat base and have a qualified welder cut the base in half horizontally then reweld the two halves back together . You may find that you can slip one half into the other half and create and overlap then it could be welded both sides , I would still suggest if required a certificate for legal reasons but if not just make sure the welder is top notch .
