Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Have I got central locking?

    Hi guys,

This is possibly a very silly question, but…

I recently bought a 2003 T4 TDI Transporter. The main key (not the spare) has a press button which does nothing. When dissected, it reveals corroded electrics.

So, I'm thinking maybe I have central locking but how can I be certain?

And if I do have C/L, what am I likely to have to pay for a new key?

Note that I don't have power windows or mirrors.

    cheers, Dubswin.

The T4,s we owned did not have central locking the button was for a tiny light so you could find the key hole in the door , easiest way to find if you do have central locking is to insert the key into the drivers door and turn if all the other doors lock then you have central locking . As I said all of our 3 T4's did not have it as they were base models . You can fit aftermarket easy enough if required as I have done ours that we owned . As you are in Tweed there is a great company in Brisbane who have every thing you would need .

As said, the button is a light, although most of it has probably fallen out.

If it had factory remote central locking (keyless entry), it'd be on a seperate fob.

Aaaahh, there you go, that all makes sense.

Thanks so much for your responses guys! I will get some aftermarket C/L then.

        cheers, Dubswin.
