Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Interior lights out, fuses good

    HI all,

I have an edition 25 2011 Multivan and have lost all my interior lights and the fuses (7.5A) all are ok (as are all the fuses I tested). I have looked on the forum here to see which ones are for the interior lights as VW dont publish which fuse are for which part of the car. It seems that 10 and 16 are the ones, but they are fine.

I did install a rope LED light in the rear area behind going over the interior hoop inside the rear door, and it has been working well for about 7 months. This may have caused the issue but not sure. Looking for any suggestions. There is another fuse box under the bonnet but I can only find the one next to the battery, they re all good too.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Did you have a look at the diagrams posted in the main threads they have all the fuses 16 is one and from looks 24 may be another .I also have a beef with VW in not putting fuse location charts in the vans these days . All they do is give some P*&^S poor story about ongoing development what a crock .

Have a look in the fuses under the passenger seat.

I was told by my Service guy that VW dont publish fuse diagrams to stop punters replacing fuses with higher rated fuses and causing more problems...

checked the fuses under the seat, no 7.5 ones there

Yes and the next thing they will do is to stop putting valves in the tyres to prevent us from changing air pressure , or removing the engine oil dipstick to stop us checking the level or removing the oil filler cap in case we put too much oil into the engine . I just don't understand their logic , look at the reality what would happen if for some reason a fuse blows accidently {yes I did do that with interior light and also radio } or through interference a fuse blows and the car becomes disabled way out west doesn't anyone think its our right to do a basic thing like replacing a fuse lets face it we have had that privilege for the last 50 or 60 years that I can recall maybe even earlier . To leave out the fuse card is tantamount to gross neglect by a manufacturer . They are of the opinion that we all live within a few kilometres of a VW dealer and if our car is still able to be driven we will probably pay for that privilege of them replacing a fuse . Lets face their own components are not without faults as they admitted when Tiguan's lighting was failing due to a factory fuse problem . END of rant !! time for my meds again . Oh by the way try and disconnect the battery for a few minutes as sometimes a fault will trigger the can bus to shut down a circuit and after it tries to use that circuit again for a couple of more times it will automatically stop sending power to the affected section .

Well my rant was helpful , at last you read it to the end . Yes I found out this issue with canbus a few times when working on cars with the system . Occasionally when reinstalling internal fittings with my work a wire sometimes seems to get under a screw or fitting and it shorts . You can check the fuses and nothings blown so after fixing the problem remove battery and she is all good again . I am still not convinced on what is supposed to be so good about CanBus , I can't tell the difference when I'm driving at all .
