• How much did you sell your old T5 or T5 4Motion for?

As the title says,
I'm interested to hear from those T5ers who sold their T5 (4Motion) and maybe what did you replaced it with when you needed a bigger van?

The new LWB T5 just won't do it for me.

Putting our 2004 T5 on the market any day soon SWB 128KW Turbo Tiptronic 145.000 kays fully sound proofed custom trimmed electric built in sliding sunroof . Hoping to get around $16k for it . I reckon its worth every cent considering lots of bog standard vans with higher kays and no fit outs sell for around the same $$ [/IMG]

I brought my 07 LWB van in 08 with 17000Kms on it.
Just getting it set up nicely now, and 125000KMs on it.
Wont sell it soon. Its such a great vehicle.
Any van lined by Sunny would be a great buy.

Timely question, as I'm now more seriously looking at replacing my T5 which has 207,000km and I'm finding I'm using my trailer more often when I'd probably be better in a bigger van especially as more and more of our deliveries are into Melb. cbd and one site, the Emporium building has two 25 tonne elevators to lower delivery vans/trucks into the basement loading bay. I prefer the Sprinter over the Crafter, just on looks alone if for no other reason although there is also a whole new range of euro's coming soon.

Edit: dealer offered my approx. $8K for my van back in Nov. '13.

Yeah, dealer wants to make another $8,000 on yours.
I personally like the look (especially from the front) of the Crafter, but under the bonnet I'd prefer the Sprinter, which has a chain driven 2.2L engine with more power and for similar money. I can get the 316 120kW MWB Sprinter with RVC, satnav, fog lights, front bench seat with a huge storage under the seat, multifunction steering wheel and a nice smart trip computer (not a obsolete red display) for $58,457 on the road. If I'd go for Crafter with 2.0L TDI400 it would be a factory other and I miss on zero% finance deal.
I've roadtested Sprinter 313 with 305Nm engine and I was impressed how well it went, though it was empty, but 316 has 360Nm torque, so it should drive when loaded as 313 Sprinter empty. Other option I've looked at is a fraction smaller Iveco with 2.3LCRD or 3.0LCRD with a lot of power and torque, proper chassis and the suspension set up I'd prefer. Though, the past reliability record of the Iveco holds me back. But, this latest add says they should last the distance.

I know it's too earlier but there has been some pre-release press on the all-new Fiat Ducato, Renault Master , Peugeot triplets. Plus all-new Transit 2 tonners are coming soon. The smaller Transit Custom shames the T5 for standard features.
I've said it a few times however if VW released a T5 with the Toureg V6 tdi/8 speed auto/4motion I'd be racing to the dealers.

I saw it and sat in it, but didn't take it for the test drive. It was $38,000 on the road, the load area appeared bigger than in my SWB 4Motion, very modern looking cabin, but I'd like to see how this Transit will look like when it wears out a bit. From the tech specs sheet it was nothing special I think it had 95kW and 300Nm - I had Vito112 manual with the same specs engine in 2002, it didn't drive that well when I loaded up.

There is a new Iveco coming in 2014 that looks really good, I have to find out when it comes to AU. The current Iveco has heated driver seat and also barn doors which open 270deg as standard. From the tech specs I couldn't find out if their 2.3L engine has DPF or not, they just don't mention that, only says Euro5 emissions. Time for the trip to Iveco dealer to find out.

Yep...strongly considering the forthcoming Transit, Daily or Ducato as the next dual cab. Not taken with either the Sprinter or Crafter especially given the fact that they are now old hat, developmentally speaking. Damn shame they are all so exey.

I'm not that happy with the faux commercial character of the mid-sizers any more and their retreat into small station wagon drivelines...

I got offered $7K for the T4 three years ago...and the last dealer I showed it too recently shook his head and said that he'd prefer not to make an offer because it would not be worth my while. Given the 6-8 month wait on a new one anyway....

You're right, but Ducato somehow doesn't do it for me.
I'll see what I can get for my 4Motion, but anything less than $15,000 and I will strongly consider keep it forever as a back up and in 20years time get much more for it than today.

There is some hope with the fact larger Transit is being built in the US to replace the E van so that driveline developments have already been done for auto transmissions and maybe larger engines will flow down into Transit Custom. There will be a V6 twin turbo Transit in the US.

I still love driving my T5, had a recent stint in a Renault Trafic and hated that driveline. If you think VW's dsg can be jerky (I do anyway compared to the Amarok's 8 speed auto) then book your physio before driving a Trafic. And VW layout, switch gear is still streets ahead. I also still need cbd carpark clearance and at least a t5 lwb sized load area and prefer an auto. Wish I could fast-forward to T6, lol. At least "car" buying beats just about any other type of shopping.

In relation to Renault Trafic: of course its single-clutch automated-manual would be aweful.
But, Trafic's proper 6sp manual is by far the best manual I tried: quick short throw shifts, clutch take up point easily felt.
Also, Trafic has much better steering feel and a really good sporty suspention with less roll.
On the same winding road, a Trafic would be able to carry at least an extra 10km/h speed than the T5.

My Multivan is a pleasant drive, but it feels like driving a limo, compared to driving a Trafic which feels like a hot hatch.

iirc there might be upto 300kg weight difference between Trafic and Lwb T5. I had it again for last 3 days while having my vans starter motor replaced. I don't think the Trafic is on my shopping list. Will check out smallest Sprinter, Lwb Vito, any info on the next new Trafic, Scudo, and obviously a T5GP

You won't be disappointed with the 2014 Sprinter. It's well equipped and drives really well.

Also the new Iveco should be here in November and it's possible that the van could come in 4x4, also bear in mind that there is no DPF exhaust on 2.3L engine. Current cost of the Iveco 35 is $49,000 on the road as I was quoted over the phone. I'm going to check and roadtest the current one on Monday, but will most likely wait for a new model, since 4x4 capability is important to me.

The zero % finance from VW is for 3-4years and both Adelaide dealers aren't so keen to make a deal. To me it looks they act like there is no alternative to the Crafter and forgetting that they won't get to sell a new Crafter equivalent vehicle till late 2017 at the best.
As much as I like the look of the Crafter's front I can't ignore other facts and want to be able to sell it for a reasonable coin in 5 years time.

Hi Transporter,

Would love to get brief feedback after your test. Got my T5 back today, brand new starter motor so now instant starting plus superior smoothness of the conventional older six speed auto makes me think the van manufacturers are not trying too hard to make me change over, lol. I would love the engine of the Vito 122, auto of Amarok (8sp ZF), 4x4 driveline, T5 body, a new interior that doesn't charge a ransom for BT, rear camera/sensors etc....and I would be the proverbial "pig in a poke".
