Hi, I have a 94 Transporter 2 litre. Runs on petrol or gas. (petrol start).
The problem is that it simply cuts out while driving, just as if the ignition was turned off. Sometimes it just does it for a half second and others it stops and wont restart for over and hour.
On these occasions, if you try to start it it will "kerchugger" and keep going like an old morry minor with the idle speed set just above stalling, but the slightest extra breath of intake air will kill it. It might do this for some time but eventually it wont do anything.
Happens on gas or petrol, so I am assuming it is not an injector problem,
Now, I have not yet checked if there is full spark when it happens. (there must be some, since it will "kerchugger."
My need is to know what is most likely here - the coil unit, the distributor (hall sensor) and is there a crank position sensor on this model?
Is the EFI computer still a suspect? Does it control the ignition as well?
Note - no it is not a relay or fuel problem. All checked.
The fault is instantaneous and can happen within two seconds or two hours of driving.
Thanks in advance for any aid. I live in the hill of northern Tasmania and have had to be towed home twice now.
