Yes the description I gave is the way to go , as for the shaft/axle I would still hold off until you pull it apart it can't hurt to leave the old part in place because as I said mine was perfect even though the spline was buggered . Which guy told you about the axle needing to be done at the same time ?

the mechanic guy that looked at it. ive got the 2 control arm bolts off, i think they were the right ones, the 2 21mm ones closer to the motor? but now i need a socket for the axle shaft bolt, the biggest i got is 32mm and was to small. what size is it?

The two bolts are in the metal bracket which holds the axle in place half way along , the one at the end of the shaft is a big one cannot remember what size , also you will need to remove the lower control arm bolts as well that way you will be able to swing the whole disc rotor and brake caliper etc outwards to clear the end of the axle these are at the very bottom of where the lower control arm joins onto the rotor . Loosen the big nut off in the center of the rotor and use a block of wood to drive the axle back out of the disc it will pop out quite easily . I wish now I had taken some pictures for reference .

Once you unbolt the axle bolt [the big one ] put the nut back on a few turns and tap it backwards the axle will come out but as its exposed to the elements it will be stuck at first , once you get it out you can pull the rotor and strut away until the end of the axle clears then you only need to pull it out from the gearbox as it will leave the stub spline in place then use the allen key to remove the spline as described earlier .

ok, ive got the axle out and now ive got a allen key that fits the spline but when im turning it its just turning the whole spline? if i put it in gear will that stop it from moving or is there another way of doing it? dont wanna cause any more damage so i thought i ask first?

Yes just put it in gear the allen key bolt is not that tight sorry forgot I had to do the same , have you got the part or are you just having a look ? . Remember once you start undoing the allen key bolt it will automatically withdraw the spline as it has a built in spring , when you are putting it back in you need to sort of push it in against the spring and at the same time use the allen key to start the bolt then you can let go of the spline and just wind it in with the bolt .

so ive replaced all the gear and took it for a drive, at first was running alot smoother then got into the drive abit and started doing the tapping of the accelerated which u could hear the noise it was making before and the noise is still there, but can tell the car runs smoother tho but the noise is still there! am i meant to let it wear in or whats the go there?? should it still be doing it?

yeaj thats what i thought, there less play when turning the wheels and u can can feel its smoother but this noise is still there, and yeah i got genuine and put some grease on the spline to, yah replaced both of them. im starting to think it may be something in the gear box
