  • Side Assist for VW Caravelle T5 GP?

Does anyone know why VW Australia don't even have side assist for the VW Caravelle T5 GP? Its available as an option on the Multivans and in the UK the side assist is available as an option on both SWB and LWB Transporter/Caravelle models.

Is there a way I can get side assist fitted on my new Caravelle?

Here is the VW link for what it does along with lots of other expensive options I would imagine the cost for a kit would be a motza of money not to mention what changes would need to be done with coding and mirrors etc .You did not hear this from me but next time you see a Multi van with it fitted STEAL it .Side Assist < Technical Glossary < Innovation & Technology < Volkswagen International Here is a video from VW for the system VW Advertises Its Side Assist Technology in Funny Commercial - Carscoops
Here is the only sort of aftermarket system I could find Premium Blind Spot Detection System #BSDS-003016p - Blind Spot Systems: Passenger Car and SUV - Products

Unless any option or feature has an issue with ADR's and needs to be complianced for local sales then there is really isn't a reason for failing to offer it. I cannot see it as a restriction placed by VW Germany so one can only assume it's a restriction placed by VW Aust to create enough model differentiation and "upselling" of the higher specced model. It's staggering when you go through VW Germany's website configuration pages optioning up a van compared to the pitiful list of offerings here. And if I see Bluetooth as an option again I'm going to burst a dpf.

Yes we are nothing but a bit player and I think you are right VWA missing sales opportunities again . I agree Bluetooth is standard in some cheap Korean and other cars but options in some of ours or you have to pay extra and then pay again for coding . With all the restrictions on mobile phone use an option no compulsory yes every car should have it fitted .

I really appreciate the input guys, I'll definitely check out that aftermarket side assist Sunny. Definitely worth considering. However is it better to get a factory one installed? Is it possible to request side assist from VWA if I wish?

You could try VW but be prepared for sticker shock as I would imagine the price will be pretty high , for example if you want factory cruise control from VW Australia its around $1200 you can buy the parts genuine from English site delivered for $265 fitting takes around two hours .
