Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Help With RVC Wiring In New T5.2 Multi

Hoping someone can help with wiring a genuine VW camera to a new multi. I need to connect the ground, Reverse +ve and 12V +ve somewhere. I was thinking of the following connections:
Gounding to the bolts in the tail gate
Joining the power and reverse power cables together and connecting to the reverse light wire.

I have taken the tail light assembly out and there are 5 wires in a connector with 1,2,3,4,5,6 pins. I have tried putting the van in reverse and using a multimeter to identify the reverse wire however they all show 12v which doesn't seem right. When I take it out of reverse none show 12V. Can someone assist with identifying these pins or offering an alternative location to wire back to?

I have also tried to test the camera after connecting to the RNS510 and nothing shows. Does it need coding before it will display the image?

    cheers,

If its a factory radio then I would imagine that yes it will need coding . Earthing to the body is fine , some other members will be able to help with the rest of the wiring for you shortly .

Think I have it sussed. Looks like black is ground and green is the +ve for reverse. Does this sound right to anyone who has done it?
Is there a better place to pick up reverse and power?

Sorry I can't help if it was an aftermarket I could give you the wiring but as its a factory its all integrated through Can Bus , you may have to wait , If you connect into a circuit that's not suitable you may cause the on board Computer to play up . When I fit aftermarket its simple connect the RCA cable to the unit connect earth to ground and then just connect the power wire to a 12 v when ignition is on which is actually part of the aftermarket head units they have a dedicated wire just for this function not sure about the factory . From memory some posters have found spare fuse points under the front passengers seat . But again it would be worth waiting for someone who has done it with factory parts etc as it will need coding .

Some light assemblies just have one color for all wires (maybe white or black),
follow those wires back to the plug and socket connector and look for -
          (gn/sw in wiring diagram) - green / black - reverse light -
(br in wiring diagram) - brown -ground -
plain brown (no trace) is usually universally ground on most if not all VWs.
Be careful when testing not to apply 12V to just any connector - Risk of module damage.

When I fitted and wired our towbar I found the signals in plugs up in the roof behind the roof trim .

Yes, if a genuine VW camera it should have the wiring and the connector ready to connect
to the coupling station (connector) in the tailgate (rear lid) LH side IIRC.
