  • T5 transporter coolant loss

Small drop in coolant and small amount of oil in overflow tank (small droplets), not water in oil and no temperature loss.

    Does anybody have any ideas?
The VW dealer doesn't have any idea maybe a head gasket, water pump or oil cooler.

I'd be inclined to think that it's the oil cooler.

By now, it's worth checking the state of the water pump, too.

I doubt it's a head gasket. Check the water pump first.

Yep agree water pump first port of call as they are renown for failing usually earlier than 90.000 k but they do fail .

I'm also inclined to say oil cooler as these were known to do this awhile back.

Thanks guys, going to check the water pump first, I have been told it's a big job to get to the oil cooler?

Yeah, both jobs are a cow actually.

You need the pullers to do the pump. Can get the kit off eBay though.

The oil cooler is above the air con compressor, which you can unbolt and swing out of the way without dumping the gas.

I agree, without a proper tool, getting the w/pump out it could be a long job. It can take you a whole day.

Water pump doesn't look to be the problem but seeing I've done 83000 klm, it's getting replaced, next step oil cooler!

How hard would it be to replace the AC compressor myself if there is no gas in the system?

Good idea to do it now as you could gaurantee it would fail sooner or later .
