Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine number T5 2005 2.0 litre petrol engine

Hi guys does any one know where the engine number is located on the 2.0 petrol engine T5 , I know there is one on the top of the timing case cover but I need to show the number on the block to Queensland Transport . It turns out that I have been paying rego fees for a 5 Cylinder engine for nearly ten years and mine is a lowly hard working reliable 4 cylinder . So after several failed attempts to get it sorted I need to get solid evidence on the engine . You would think that if the engine had been changed [which it hasn't] why fit a 4cylinder petrol in place of a 5 cylinder diesel . Thanks in advance .

It's on the front side of the cylinder block, near the starter motor.

    Mine's a 1.9TDI, and the rego papers state that it's a 2.5TDI as well.

Yes went to the Transport office again this afternoon and I explained that the last time they tried to sort out the problem they could not find the engine number dummies only had to look at the inlet manifold 4 pipes only clear as mud to me . But no they were adamant that they needed to see the bloody engine number on the block . Well today different location the nice kind lady opened the bonnet counted the pipes and said it will be sorted within 48 hours so it should be a hefty refund for nine years of over charging ,hmm wonder if I'll get interest as well ??
