Surf Board wax in ventilation system

Hi. We got a problem... My son left his surfboard wax on the dash last night and this afternoon when we got back to the car the wax was completely gone. Melted and all into the air outlets in at the windscreen.
Did anyone ever have a similar problem? What would you recommend to do? Should we go to a VW dealer and get it cleaned, or could we drive back to Sydney (from GC) and get it done there? Is there a risk of major damage to the air con compressor or other parts???
Any help would be highly appreciated...

If its gone down into the air vents along the inside of the windscreen there will be not much anyone can do short of removing the entire dashboard to get to those vent areas . The air con will mainly be okay as the fan is right down under the dashboard on the passengers side the wax would have to get through the pollen filter before it could get to the fan so it will be okay . I would imagine that the wax would have spread thin and just dried down inside the actual vents them selves . Its not like water so that's a good thing . I would clean out as much as you can get to from above and see what happens . Maybe the only problem would be if the wax has gotten onto some of the moving flaps that shut off the flow to different places . Again because most of those are way down inside the wax may not have got there . Just try the air on low speed to see what happens and then try the controls to see if they change the outlet flow .I would not recommend trying to remove the dash its a big major job . You can remove the filter and fan if you want to as they are only secured with some small hex headed screws you will need to remove the under dash trim and some of the parts below the glove box . The filter is only held in with a couple of screws and once remove you can get your hand inside but not too far I am afraid have a look with a torch once the filter is out you can see up inside the unit .Good luck and let us know how it goes .

Yes very true Steve used to love going out on the board after waxing and getting the smell right in your face , trouble today is my Malibu was custom made with full non slip decking so no wax !!

Hi again Muchito I think you will find that the warmer wax becomes the harder it is to remove , if the wax is very cold it tends to just break away from the surface where its on . If the van gets hot again the wax melts it will then sink further down although I think after the heat over the last few days it is already as far as it can go !! How big a block was it if you are lucky it may have spread out and not damaged any thing inside here is hoping . How many vents did it get into as the bulk would have gone down the closest one , I just had a look at ours and the top vent does not appear to be easily removed its probably held in with some suicide clips {typical these days} As I said remove the whole dash would be a biggy .
