  • New/Recon engine for T5 TDi ???

    Hi All,

I am running up the kms pretty quickly on my 2008 T5 TDi with 2.5L BPC engine well over 100,000km a year using it as a pilot vehicle. Am wondering what my options are when I wear out the motor or when it sh*ts itself. I've put a huge amount of time into setting it up to suit me, so don't want to change cars if possible.

I've read these engines have an alloy block with some sort of sprayed on plasma coating in the bore, am thinking it may be simular or same as ceramic? Can't imagine a rebuild with the bore sleeved would ever be the same. Any thoughts and/or info appreciated.

This engines are quite durable and if maintained correctly you should be able to get 500,000km out of it.

I asked a diesel engine rebuilder about doing a rebuild on my sons van some years ago admittedly it was an old T4 with the 2.4 non turbo but the guy said that it was not hard to expect to spend around $12000 for a rebuild on that engine so I would imagine the newer ones would be the same or even more maybe ?

Here's one option from the UK. There are many others. As you see, prices are far cheaper than in OZ Scroll down to see pictures of common problems with the BPC engine.

He was probably honest and his rebuilt was a full rebuilt, unlike some others.
If the rebuilt is done properly it won't be cheap and you may as well opt for a new engine or find the low mileage secondhand.
