Australian supplier Bilstein coil overs?

Dear All

The shocks on my 08 T5 2.5TDI are stuffed. Interested in an upgrade and it appears that the Bilstein kit, T5 B14 Height Adjustable Coilover Kit, mentioned in an earlier thread are the best to get. I'm running standard 215/16 Michelin's and not looking to upgrade the wheels or tyres. Is there an Australian distributor or must they be purchased OS?

Worth buying from them, I found them very good to deal with and excellent back up. Get a quote - then compare prices with the freight factored in.

My Bilsteins should be here early next week $1496.29 on their own $1731.55 delivered to Australia , I rang a Sydney distributor and they quoted around $2800 for the same thing OUCH ! remember ask them to split the order or you will be crucified by Australian Customs as anything over a grand attracts duties and taxes etc . Don't bother with the FK stuff as the ones I got are useless they are going back for a full refund .Bilstein Volkswagen Transporter T5 (7HA,7HH,7EA,7EH) Box 2.0 TDi B14 Coilover Suspension Kit (47-196704) Transporter T5 T26 T28 T30Needed to ad this on the split invoice worked out another $98 still cheaper than customs etc , oh by the way time to swap was around 3 hours done by myself then a wheel alignment .

Heasemans have been expensive for as long as they've been in business. If you want back-up, support, 50 years of experience, warranty, etc then you have to pay for it.

Heasmans have quoted me $2400 for a 35mm lift kit , plus $400 to fit, - kings springs, bilstein shocks and a 20mm rear diff drop plate which they say is necessary for a 4motion. Spoke to one guy who had fitted a similar kit - said ride was very hard, but was comparing to a toyo land cruiser! I currently have the VW rough road suspension fitted and that is a hard ride but not much suspension travel.

Just drove the Strezleki and found the bits of bad corrugations fairly rugged but it all held together. My T5 is a camper van conversion and weighs in @2800kg trip ready so I guess that will challenge most suspensions given the low profile tyres.

Also spoke to a suspension outfit in Melbourne, salesman had a T5 dual cab and does a fair bit of outback travel - found that the bilstein shocks rode hard and got a better ride from Koni's. He suggested that I leave the front springs as is, fit the raised rear kings and put Koni shocks all around , about $1250 for the shocks.

Kings wouldn't be my spring of choice but Heasemans probably do a lot of work with them so they just provide the specs & King's make them. Seems odd as k-Mac are just down the road from Heasemans.

I'd agree that Koni give better initial compliance than Bilstein - especially bilstein inverted struts that suffer from quite jarring stiction. OTOH, I know quite a few Bilstein users that have had their Billies revalved (generally softer) by Heasemans & have achieved damper nirvana.

I have Knings springs and Pedders HD shockers at the back and am very happy with them. The van is 2005 4Motion loaded to the max with the tools.

Were those springs the 35mm raised version, if so what actual lift did you get when loaded versus the original springs

Well today I received the second part of my Bilstein Coilovers and am I happy Finally after 3.5 months of putting up with the horrible noise coming from the front struts . I fitted them tonight 3 hours from start to finish . Went for a drive and wow its like chalk and cheese the van still has its nice lowered stance but the ride is so much plusher not choppy like the FK coilovers were . I will tip abucket here don't trust someone who you expect to know what they sell Tidy Transporters in the UK were the most useless bunch to deal with . I ordered two things from them and they stuffed up both things utterly . The cruise control was for the early T5 not the T5.1 which I went to great lengths to explain to the guy . And then there was the FK suspension from Tidy Transporters they stuffed me around from November until March before I received them and they were rubbish . I am of the opinion that they were not even designed for the T5.1 model , I had contacted FK in Germany and they told me they were not for our model but the guy at Tidy Transporters was adamant that they were correct . So after a heap of angry emails Tidy Transporters under threat of legal action relented and said they would give me a refund {won,t hold my breath } . So word of caution Tidy Transporters cannot be trusted to deliver the correct parts or even get them sent in a reasonable time frame {3 months} .
