When my throw out bearing or thrust bearing went it made loud noises ONLY when the clutch was pushed in to change gears is this the same for you .

No. only noise happens when I let off the clutch in 1st and 2nd gear. It has since been suggested the flywheel is the problem???????

How long since clutch plate has been done if well worn the rivets could be touching the pressure plate .

Dual mass flywheel. Get it sorted before the thing explodes and destroys the gearbox.
Check the rear engine mount before taking the box out, but I'd still reckon the dual mass.

Yeah bit more loading in the lower gears i suppose, ive had to angle grind a hub off once as it was seized solid and couldnt access the bolts. Is bit clacking? if the answer is anywhere near yes then DMF
