  • Found an extra 20-30% throttle!!

    Well, I'll be ..............

Been driving this thing since 06, and have just found the kickdown point on the throttle
It's so almost like a hard stop, I've never pushed it, thinking that was all it had.

Are other auto T5's like this?

Back in the "old" hang on the "good old days" most autos had a manual kick down when you buried the right foot it would activate the down shift and if it was a V8 it would give an almighty kick in the back . These days with fly by wire throttles it would be harder to detect as a whole load of electronics then start to kick things into gear . I can,t honestly say if our current T5 or the older one were like this as you describe .If you bury the right foot every thing happens pretty quickly in the old T5 with steel gear driven cam it really barked when pushed . The newer T5 is not does not make the same noise admit here its the single turbo 2.0 lt but it does not take off with the same grunt the 2.5 would . But hey I am not complaining as it gets me from A to B pretty good .

Mine takes a very definite hard push on the pedal to go further.Maybe from lack of use .Also even if the engine is off
I tried removing it for a closer look, but it's got almost no access without removing the steering joints, etc.

Yeah, that little switch is still there in the Mk6 Golf. Push down the throttle all the way and it'll shift down a couple of gears, but if you press the switch at the end it'll shift down to the lowest gear possible (i.e. 2nd or 3rd depending on speed) and throw you back into your seat.

I've got a my13 multivan and it's as you describe, its quite disconcerting how hard you need press to get it past that point.

...and even in the Golf5 TDI DSG it will accelerate fats towards the top speed, you can see 180km/h real quick, since I think it will give the extra boost for a few seconds, it growled nicely too.
