Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Control module should plug in under the passenger's seat. Not sure on the rest, as I've not dealt with a pre-wired T5GP.

You'll still need to get it programmed so that it works.

Okay guys today I had a brainstorm after picking myself up from the floor after a quote from VW for $620 for the wiring harness alone for trailer lights with our new T5 , I went online and did some research found a harness in the UK for $260 plus postage . I thought to my self why not fit a relay between each light signal as the vans electronics would be looking for a voltage amp level which would trigger the CanBus to have a hissy fit . The relay would not send a value to the vans brain as there are no bulbs , then in another moment of clarity I stopped in at Speedy Towbars in Slacks Creek and was having a yarn to the guy about the issue . He reaches around the corner shelf an pulls out a wire harness that has been developed by Hayman Reece especially for VW T5 2010 onwards models how much $125 and no coding required it has its own multi relay unit , I will let you know how it goes .
Oh by the way the quote from them for a complete towbar fitting with wiring etc $750 makes VW look abit on the nose.

I will have a look under my van on the weekend and see if I can see where the wiring goes

            What....ripped off by VW?

Yes I know what your saying and in many cases its the truth but in many cases its not.

I would trust Hayman Reece to have a decent product.

I have the hayman reece in my golf, and it is true, it does defeat the can bus as far as light out sensing goes.
But it is a pretty 'dumb' unit, in that there are several relays, and they occasionally chatter when the ignition is not on (when the tails go on when the car unlocks).
I can't help thinking that, particularly with the lower burden of LED trailer lights, this could be done with some lightweight power electrics.
But that would require me getting into the shed uninterrupted for a couple of hours, something that ain't gonna happen anytime soon...

Read my post on the other thread about towbars .Snowmotion the wire harness will be all internal behind the side and roof trim , but you can access the plugs by just removing the taillights the rest of the wires lead out of the body right at the bottom rear corners there are two rubber grommets for this . . The Hayman Reece drew all power connections for the lights from the harness behind the rear passengers side trim and at the top corner under the roof trim panel for the Rh indicator .
