a miss, suspect fuel pump

Hi all, my 95 T4 2.5 petrol is really getting difficult. I am frustrated.
It misses and sometimes stops only to go again straight away. The pump relay clicks on and off at times with the pump operating as normal (ie 2sec run) I have traced and pulled all wires in and out of pump and relay and can't simulate the fault. I cleaned the relay points it went well for a day so I replaced the relay took it for a test drive 1/2 km miss, stall, start -got home. Pulled out the pump ran it off a battery no problems.
I could be experiencing an intermittent ignition fault but dont know where to look. I recently had the coil pack tested by Injectronics P/L and it was fine. has any one got a fresh test or idea

I know what your problem may be there is an engine control relay in the fuse box I had one in my T4 years ago it would just cut off the engine and then instantly it would come back on again then as time went on it would just cut out without warning and sometimes in the most dangerous of places ie middle intersection . The dealers could not fault find it but lucky for me after some complaining a guy in the parts overheard me and jumped in and said its a relay number so and so $20 later it was fixed never did it again , some of the other members will know which number it is , Iam not sure which one you have replaced but once someone puts up the number you can then be sure you have or have not replaced the right one .

Not sure of the exact problem you are experiencing but have you also considered the fuel filter? A clogged and dirty filter can interrupt the fuel supply and display similar characteristics.

id get codes checked, could be engine speed sensor issue, i think it has one in the distributor and on the block. Id assume these can shut off your relay and they are problematic

Clutching at straws here, could it be a worn ignition switch. These wear out on the TDIs & cause all sorts of problems.

Ditto to the fuel pump relay
Dry soldered joint was randomly breaking contact
Replaced it and no more problem
Worth a try as its cheap, and either fixes the issue, or ticks one off the list to try

Have you got any further with your problem Eddie? I have been thinking about this & maybe there is an interruption to the power to the relay. That is why I suggested a new ignition switch. I am presuming the power goes through the switch as on our Polo the pump starts when the drivers door is opened & nothing to do with the switch. You could rig up a temp. test light coming from the power supply to the relay[probably no 30] & hang it somewhere that you can see it while driving. If the light goes out you could wriggle the ignition key & see if it comes back on.
