  • T5 parts

Okay I am going to admit here that I made a mistake today and need a particular part , whilst fitting the factory cruise control in our new T5 I accidently rotated the transfer ring-hub one turn too many to one side and when I refitted the wheel and turned full lock it tore out the ribbon cable that transfers signals from the horn and airbag DOH . Its the part that attaches to top of the indicator wiper hub its easily removed but unknowingly I did not realise it cannot be rotated from the position is in when removed . So does any one know of a 2010 model onwards that is being dismantled . Please don't make my life worse by paying out on me I feel bad enough already , what is stupid was that I had already fitted a factory cruise to my work van and it works sweet just did not have the same success with our new one . Don't feel bad about it, this things happen.

Wanted to buy or Camden GTI would be a place I would ask as well. Sometimes posting the picture of the part you need may help to, when you've already made an effort to post. Naming the thread correctly could also help.

Thanks Transporter yes I was going to give Camden a call but as there are so many members I thought it would be a good starting point , the part is called I think from research a "Clock Spring " if you remove the airbag there is a plug which connects to the part , this part is actually connected to the front or top of the indicator wiper arms unit you can see the part once the wheel has been removed the part number is 6QO959654 Hope this makes it easier for anyone who can help Regards Howard

PS any one considering fitted a factory cruise themselves give me a call having fitted two for both early and later T5,s this week alone I can give you some helpful hints {and not the mistake I made with the PART I BROKE } that the supplied instruction do not make very clear .Oh the price for the factory cruise from VW Teeside in the UK was $195 AUD delivered

          Don't feel bad

I broke an internal plastic slider/clamp for the window glass, doing a passenger door central locking repair.
Silly me thought it would be easier to use the electrics to drive the clamp back up to the taped up window glass, rather than drop the window by hand.
          Oops!

A dodgy repair got me through though

Thanks T5 dude the VW part is 6QO959654 it seems that there are various models depending on fitted options to the steering wheel .

Only problem for me was that I am generally able to think out a problem and come up with hopefully a solution , I studied the broken part and decided that as this was a part of the Airbag system no quick fix would be wise so its off to the dealers for the genuine part around $300 . There was a ribbon wire tape that is wrapped around the part at some point it is folded back on itself which allows the hub to rotate so many times in each direction when I rotated it from its original position it then was shorter one side than the other , so when the wheel was turned to full lock the tape was out of length and just tore of the connector . Six tiny strips with only half a mil between them put paid to any chance of re soldering so I did not bother . The upside is that I have become very proficient at removing the airbags etc .
