  • Thankyou Transporter

Well at last the waterpump is due for replacement.........
afterlooking for my keys for twenty minutes this morning, thanks kids!, I drove down the road to be confronted with the squeal of low water warning.......
As a forum regular i straight away thought water pump, fluids were checked last week and all fine, rang my non vw mechanic (very good friend who knows when it is best for me to go to VW specialist) who says maybe head gasket as there is water froth in the filler cap, doubting him i made a call to both Transporter on this forum and Canberra VW centre (belconnen) and they both said water pump.
So a big thankyou to Transporter for confirming my thoughts and diagnosing a car from over a thousand K's away!!, what a great forum we have where we can all share our knowledge.
So the next Q is is there anything else that should be done at the same time?? thermostat for example?
Transporter also said that it could be the oil cooler so i will watch that after the water pump is done.
BTW my mechanic was worried about contamination of the cooling system and the requirement to flush that as well, no oil seems to be in the water at the moment.
    Thanks again Transporter

    P.S.

If your mate isn't a VW specialist, make sure he uses the correct engine oil.

yeah he's all good for the oil, I made sure that it was correct spec.
It seems that aussie mechanics love aussie and get scared with the euro stuff, i suppose it is a bit different to your falcodore/camry stuff and the effort is maybe not worth the time in learning, when the bulk of their work is for holden tojo ford and other like makes..

thanks for the prompt, as the wrong oil would be BAD

        Should be all good tomorrow

I would flush it at least 2x before using VW506.01 very expensive oil. Also, would always change the oil filter between the flushes, with the engine run for an hour in between. The first flush would be done using Liqui Moly Engine Detox (run the engine at idle only for 1/2 hour or 45 minutes). The flushing oil would be VW505.01 approved oil. When I've replaced the w/pump in my T5 I did another the 3rd oil change after 1 week of driving. When my w/pump failed, there was not much coolant leaking inside the engine maybe up to 1L in total.
