  • Aftermarket airconditioning in a LWB T5

I have a LWB T5 which has been converted to a 8 seat people mover. I have the standard OEM A/C unit which is not half bad. Always amuses me that a german made vehicle has better air con than an Australian (Ford) made car. However the kiddies in the back row don't get the benefit of its operation.

I have seen these units (look here at this T4 at the rear of the van VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER TDi (LWB) T4 VAN). I suspect this is an aftermarket unit but I am not sure.

Has anyone in Adelaide got any suggestions as to where I could go to see whether I could augment our existing factory air con with an aftermarket unit?

There should be a few van accesories places aroud that do dual air as an aftermarket thing.

I know the police Transporters have a separate rear a/c. I can't imagine it would be cheap, though.

Maybe assess your options for opening rear side windows :p

I have one of these units in my 2002 TDI 300 and it works well. Well it did until gas leaked out. I am in the process of having the ac regassed and can let you know then. My understanding is that the units are not cheap I have been told approx $3000 fitted

Cant find anything enlightening on the WWW. I assume its refrigerated. What sort of job does it do and do you use the oem dash unit to supplement it. Does running this affect the oem dash units performance?
