  • Help! Brake lights on permanently.

This afternoon I backed up a mates driveway(steep one) to unload some tools. When we finished I noticed my brake lights were on. When I drove back home my glow plug light was flashing! I have no idea where to start. I guess the only thing I did out of the ordinary was pull the handbrake on a lot harder than normal. Any ideas?

I just disconnected the brake pedal switch and the lights went off. Thank you Umai! The glow plug light still flashes when the engine is running though.... weird that they would both happen at the same time??? I'd better call Jimmy, she's due for a service anyway.

        Cheers,

        Sherwy.

Its the same fault, ecu is registering the fault for the brake switch and showing glow light as fault recognition, change the switch and clear fault ( it will have an implausable brake light switch fault). Happy Days.

Do I get the impression here that the brake switch fault causes the Glow plug light to come on or is it just that the same warning light is used for multiple warnings from different components ??

Glow Plug light is the same as a Check Engine light in a petrol car.

The fault for the brake light switch is logged in a few ECUs, including the engine.

Thank you all. I picked up a new switch from Austal at Newstead today. The van is now over at Auto extra's at Herston having a new rear seat fitted so I''ll have to wait to fit the new brake switch. Thanks again.

Replaced the switch and all good. Glow plug light disappeared immediately. New seat and window look great too!

                  Cheers,

                  Sherwy.
