Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Multivan Electric Doors fault

    Hello All,

I have a 2007 Multivan and the left hand electric door no longer operates unless I use the override by double pressing the dash. I can understand the there is a pinch protection, open circuit fault as the dash button now continues to flash and when driving go solid... Other then the pinch protection fault the door function fine.

I have searched the forum before posting and so far, I have been unable to find a thread which addresses this issues other than the comment relating to repairs costs.

    My questions are:
What the best way to test the fault and what should I look for?
If the seal requires replacing, how difficult is this job or is it a return to workshop?
What would the excepted repair cost be?

Any assistance and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Its a bit like the old story how long is a piece of string? , unfortunately without someone actually having the same problem you may never know what fault it has and as for costs steer clear of the dealers unless you can get a firm commitment from them for labour costs and time spent diagnosing the problem . There is a tendency these days for dealers to rely on a computer diagnostic to pinpoint the problem as techs are not trained to try and fix things like the good old days . Sorry to any dealer techs but I got that info from one of my customers .

There was virtually a full-day of training on these doors.

Rub your hand up and down the pinch strip, and re-test.

          Multivan Electric Doors fault

Thanks for the replies. I was told from the local dealer it was a common fault and that all repairs that had done on this were under warranty in the past.

A new seal in over $300 but as they said, there have been other wiring issues encountered so, I take away from that their engineering and design was a major factor if they have replaced a lot under warranty. The problem with VW here is they have adjust their prices as the AUD increased and it is cheaper to get things directly for Germany

I tried rubbing my hand up and down the seal but the error persists. This error actually makes it a safety issue, so I found to do sometime. Anyway, I see if I can delve into the wiring diagram if I can find one and test that before replacing the seal.
