Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine Number 2003 2.5 diesel

Could someone please tell where on the engine the engine number on a 2003 2.5 Diesel Transporter is?
    Thanks in anticipation

The easiest place to find is on a white sticker on the top of the cambelt cover. I believe it is stamped on the front of the block up high near the cyl head. I have purchased two vans interstate & on my return have needed to have checks done before they could be registered in SA. The first time the inspector referred to some notes they had but for the second vehicle I struck a new guy that would not accept the no. on the cam cover. I had also given him an engineers report from NSW that the PO had to employ because the inspector there had refused to go delving up the front to find it.[van had been transfered from TAS] This report still didn't satisfy him so I said good luck in finding it. After some 20 minutes of looking with a torch & the customers building up, he decided to talk to his supervisor who seemed to be "normal" & decided to accept the no. on the cam cover & the Engineers Report.
As you can see it's not easy to find & the radiator probably needs to be tilted forward or go in from underneath after removing the belly pan.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

      Thanks jets.
Am about to pick one up in NSW and bring it back to Qld; and do the re registering bit; so I suspect that bit of information might be very timely.
      Thanks again

Picked up my new secondhand Diesel T4 2003 Transporter and drove it 400ks to home, empty.
Wow! What a hoot. Pleasantly surprised by on rails feeling handling and grunt for the hills and overtaking on the expressway.
Now to fill it with camping gear- ----???
