T4 Wheels

    I know that there are rules and regs varying between states etc , but as far as I know there will be alternate wheels and tyre combos that would satisfy requirements . When I bought my son a T4 two years ago we fitted some alloy wheels and new tyres , we spent some time discussing the legal matters with our wheel and tyre guy Keith 4 Wheels here in Brisbane . Keith is a switched on guy who knows the regs as good as any one , he eventually worked out what style wheels combined with correct tyre ratings would satisfy any scrutiny . As we do not use our vans for the maximum load they can carry it was not too hard to get the right combo within safe specs . I am sure that the only way it would cause a problem is if the wheel was to actually collapse in everyday use . Lets face it even factory wheels have been known to fail in certain extreme circumstances . I certainly would not advocate making a decision with out some expert advise from some one in the industry . I for one am happier with all of my vans running on tyres with the correct specs than some supposed commercial tyre with dubious road holding and handling capabilities . When we bought my sons T4 originaly it had light truck tyres on and after the first few hours it was evident that I would not have my son driving it with these "recommended load rated tyres"of this type . . this is my personal feelings on this subject so please dont use my circumstances as gospel .         Tyre Placard

        I was just looking at my placard and it says 730kg rating per tyre. I checked the load rating specifications and it would appear anything with a tyre rating of over 96 does the job. Im new to this so Im eager to get some opinions on it.
