  • Side Bars/Steps.... Where to buy in Oz

    Hi all,

Got a call from the dealer yesterday, my new multivan has arrived. Hopefully if i can get the money out of the bank ill be picking It up on Saturday. Looking to find out where I can buy some side bars/steps from ? (I'm I'm Melb)

Also any pics or recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Darrren.

I'm interested in a pair too. Not to use as steps but more as side panel protection. Everything I have seen has been ex-UK.

This is one of the last jobs "to do" left on my van.

If all else fails I was going to knock up a set with step infills that can also be used as recovery tracks...

I'm considering side steps from Direct 4x4 UK - AUD300 landed. It's not even worth me spending anytime in the workshop trying to make a pair.

Direct 4x4 - VW T5 SWB Black Side Bars

If there is enough interest I will inquire if there is any saving in a group buy. I drive across to VIC/SA every couple months and could drop them off for any forum members that are interested.

I'll keep looking at other UK suppliers too.

I'd be interested in a LWB set to fit my 2007 Van. Pete, if you look into a group buy, could you keep me informed as well?

                Ta.

I've searched most UK sites and only one pair of side steps catches my fancy - TRAX HD.

My problem is that I don't like how many of these steps attach to the floor pan. There is a good chance of major damage from a light side impact. I'm going to get my van on a hoist and see if there is a better attachment solution. This looks like it maybe another workshop job

There always will be a chance of some damage to surrounding area, unless you strenghten the floor area where the bar attaches to.

When I used to fit the side steps to vans and 4wds etc if they were made correctly they would attach to existing points that had bolt holes alreday in them now VW,s never had them standard so these holes may not exist in the current ones . The makers would normaly pick up some mounting points at chassis and cross beam points , but as the VW,s have the plastic under floor covers I would imagine they would have to be removed and then have access holes cut out of them for each bracket that holds the step in place .

Wen we get there, I have the VW document for T5 (all body styles) showing where the fitting points are and how should the side steps and other accessories attach/be fitted to comply.
