  • 3.2L Multivan 6 Cyl

May well have been covered elsewhere but cannot seem to find when i search???

Thoughts / opinions on the 3.2L Petrol Multivan compared to the 2.5L Diesel?

    Pro's / Cons between the 2?

Is the fuel economy really bad on the 3.2L Petrol?

If anyone has the petrol version i'd love to hear their thoughts and how much fuel they consume.

    Many thanks

I have an 05 build 3.2L 6 spd manual 4 motion with 6 captains chairs, no rear bench seat. I bought it in 07 with 13k on the clock. Have now just clicked over 155k and has not missed a beat as far as the engine/mechanicals are concerned.

I do a mix of hwy and suburban driving and average around 12l/100k, sometimes lower depending on how much hwy, get down to about 10l/100 on easy long hwy driving. The v6 is a great motor plenty of power and works nicely with the 6 spd manual, freinds comment on how sporty it drives and handles for a big heavy van. Having had a number of quite quick sporty cars in the past, i think I will find it a bit hard to go to a Multivan with a diesel auto.

I have been lucky to have always had a car allowance and petrol card so consumption has never really been an issue, although I do better than friends with territory's.

Only problem I have had is the auto sensing wipers no longer auto sense, fixed this previously by disconnecting reconnecting battery terminal and the driver side auto door no longer opens automatically and only 1/3 of its travel manually, have heard this is a quite expensive fix.

Really???? your only getting 12l/100 out of your TDI? That's not good.
Mine was 8-9l/100 until recently, when the EGR valve got replaced. Since then, I am consistently doing 7.8l/100km per tank. (132kw, DSG)

The noise the V(R)6 makes is a good enough excuse to get one

Fletchog, the doors aren't too expensive to fix. It sounds like the cable and pulleys to pull/push the door open/closed has failed. It's pretty common, and not too bad to do. Just make sure whoever does it, orders a full complement of trim clips for the trim cover that goes over the middle track on the rear quater panel.

Have a look at the pic .... see fuel gauge and kms on the trip meter .... about what we get for every tank in city driving. Open road sees more than double that .... no errors on VCDS.

That was at 2000km, no on 20000km and no real improvement.

              Sharkie,

Sorry if I'm being a rather unattractive blonde but.....where you have the Dorville Road showing in the panel, is this standard on all Multivan's??

              Cheers

All the new T5s (post mid 2010) have this white MFD. That particular display (Nav directions) you get if you have a RNS510 SatNav installed and coded. You can do this even if you install your RNS510 afterwards on any new T5.

And RE fuel consumption, we have driven Brisbane to Sydney (950km) on a tank, so open road consumption is good for a big van, its the city commute that eats diesel ....
