Seems a bit inconsistent to me that VW have them on some and not others makes you wonder why ? our two T5,s have them sons T4 has a steel one .

@Sunny43.5 - the answer is simple, cost.

VWA can program a build but each variation/revision impacts the cost. Sometimes we get lucky. If the person responsible at VWA can spend the time and has the expertise, they can mix and match between construction stations and build modules to get the most vehicle for a target price.

eg. If you have the finger on the pulse, you may hear of a cancelled fleet order for the UK. It may include height adjustable headlights for a Transporter. You may grab those for your order at internal discount.

This has to align with marketing. If height adjustable seats are a better "sell" than undertrays - we lose the undertrays...

As to plastic versus steel undertrays - cost and actual use. Out of the > 1,000,000 T5 (June 2009) T5 manufactured, exactly what percentage actually go off road? It would be nice if VW offered the option, but unless there is significant customer request, the factory leaves it up to third parties like Seikel.

I do have one but don't run it. I believe that it will aid in cooling the transmission as well.
