Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Beach substitute..

Originally I was after a Kombi Beach, but they I was unable to locate one. I ended up with a Multivan and have fitted it out with some drifta custom drawers/kitchen and a swivel seat.Everything is mounted on the tracks in the van, the captains chairs have been removed from the van for the moment....Taking off next week for a road trip!

I was able to use some of the posts here on the forum to 'rewire' the power outlets in the back, they only have power now when the engine is running.

Not too much at the moment. Mrs omo is busy sewing curtains as I am posting...I have also fitted a Fiamma bike rack at the back and attached a shade awning to the roof racks. My big regret is not getting the 4-motion version of the van. I figure that I will keep working on this van and hopefully change all the gear over to a 4 motion at some stage...
I will post some pics when all is done.

I ended up getting a base from seats are us in Brisbane. It bolted straight on to the seat base. I did end up moving the fuse block to the rear of the seat for access.
I forgot what I payed for the base, will check it for you.

It would be awesome to get some pricing for the swivel seats! Did you do just the passenger or both fronts?? (Or can you only do one?)

I was going to look into this but never really got around to it... But if it's essentially plug and play! Wooo!!

(Nice colour by the way... I was tempted by the Olympic Blue myself they do look awesome. I'm really sick of the 12 varieties of grey they have on offer).

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

            Good looking job!

Can you still lower and raise the revolving seat, as you can in the multivan?

I had a swivel fitted to my multi in the UK but you had to lift the seat before turning so your head was very near the roof!

The seat sat 30mm higher than standard.

Did you know you can get curtains made to fit in the multivan windows from VW?

            Liking your ideas.

I ended up getting the seat swivel from here: Accessories - Turntables - TURNTABLE 6 VOLKSWAGEN T4 - Motorhome Seats . They are based here in Brisbane.
The price was A$495. I am not too sure what they would charge to install, they were very helpful and gave me a few tips on installation. It came with all the bolts etc. I did move the under seat fuses to the back of the seatbase, wiring looms had plenty of lenghth in them to do this.
Rob, it does bring up the seat higher, 30 mm sounds about right. The up down mechanism still works fine, it needs to be brought up a touch to clear the base when turning. As there is only the two of us, there is no point in turning both seats.

Some more photo's of the drawers and the Engel attachment.

Drawers open, good thing with this set up is that i have plenty of space for work tools on top of camping set up.

Table and kitchen pulled out halfway for 'roadside' cooking

Table and kitchen removed, they can be used under the awning for normal camping. Kitchen can be set up for long bench or 90 degree. Both kitchen and table can be height adjusted.

Engel mounting plate, using existing bolt holes and rails.

Correct - it' called "Good Night Package" - not many sales people know about it as it is not listed on the price list & to be honest I found out through this lovely forum myself
Any one who requires the code, just email me at work!

I got my "Good night package" from Ebay Greece.

Thats where they are made and quite a few things like the curtains can be bought cheeper from greece then VW.

There are quite a few codes....one for each curtain, bag for them to go in, bed sheet, rear foam, rear platform, and probably more!

Rob, I would be in trouble if I mentioned at this stage that I just could have bought the curtains from VW / Ebay

Yeah, swivel seat(s) make all the difference. It's amazing how they transform the size of the interior once they are turned around.

As I have sold the van (needed a 4WD pick up for work), I will post all the camping accesories in the for sale section.
