Yes thats true but SAIC Chinas largest car manufactuer is also in partnership with GM and our own favourite VW !!!! if you look at this video there is more than a few styling clues they have taken from the T5,s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb3T9Bhpjog

It certainly will be the interesting van to see, but I can see the China build quality on some their cars here and I remain sceptical. The VW partnership doesn't mean anything, the Suzuki also had a partnership with the VW; didn't they?

From my point of view, I see it as a waste of money to buy one of these. You're better of with well proven brand 2-3 years old second hand vehicle than the Chinese attempt. The service and spare parts supply will be terrible and resale value "0".

I don't think that we need it here.

I recently spent some time at a dealership who sold Chery and Ssangyong, and you're right. Parts supply was woeful. The Australian warehouses didn't have it, or it was simply not available at all.

I think it'd be safe to assume that these vans have a pretty poor crash rating, as well. Something that the Government really needs to crack down on. But they wont, because it may tarnish our supposedly good relationship with China. 4 stars or less eed not apply, would be a good start. But yeah, just a pipe dream unfortunately.

            Build quality and Chinasse cars

The car is Chery J1 and unless this car was the reject which somehow passed the quality control and found its way to Australia, rather than to their scrap yard, I don't think that it should ever pass the ADR.

We will soon pay the carbon tax while somebody is allowed to waste the resources, pollute the planet with the help of every country who allows their inferior products in.

Here are the pictures of the front crossmember showing the quality of the welds. You'll be the judge but I could train the 15year old boy who never had any tool in his hand in less than 4 hours to do better welds.

People would be better off buying used Japanese or even Korean cars rather than this. The reason why you would want that people buy a new car is only for the safety and better fuel economy which means cleaner air and with the fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km (combined) in the almost the smallest car on the road with the manual gearbox, I failed to find any reason why this cars should be on the Australian roads.

Probably faulty welds in the seat backrest. http://www.caradvice.com.au/130776/2...-in-australia/

The Victorian Government were smart enough to ban any new passenger car from being sold new in that state, without ESP. Why this wasn't implemented nationwide, I don't know.

If the likes of VW can release cars across the board with a 5-star EuroNCAP rating, then why can't others? There's no way the Chery would get anywhere near it with the build quality they posess. Hell, while we're at it, why haven't ISOFIX child restraints been approved for Australia yet? Is it because Australian-built Holdens, Fords and Toyotas would require a hand-out from the Government to implement it?

I'd be interested to see how they price it.

They say 20-30% less than an equivalent van locally, so if a petrol iLoad manual is $26990 that would mean entry level on the yum cha van being around $19'990?

Not sure thats still attractive enough for me but Never say never.

Even if it's worth nothing, VW commercial resale values are terrible as well, I lost 50% of my immaculate old Caddy maxi TDIs value in 2yrs, a 3yr old Crafter 35 I got $26000 for after costing $53000 new, and I was offered $38000 'maximum' last week for an MY10 Crafter 50 less than two years old which I paid $73000 for.

No more VW commercials for me.

No more European commercials for me actually, as no one wants to touch them here in Australia used.

I have an iLoad now, simple, nice enough to drive, and factory 5th warranty ensures resale stays strong.

You maybe right about a poor resale value but the Chinese van will have even worst resale value and maybe even nobody will want it.

I always preffer to keep my vehicles longer, that's probably when the tables turn. You get more $ for +8years old VW than for an iLoad or Toyota van. I know the VW cost more, but hey, that's why we buy them because they drive well.

                    Loving the pictures Transporter...

Thats got to be the worst welding I have ever seen especially in a commercial application.

                    Umai Naa!!,

Did you see my post on the ISOFIX seats coming to Oz soon?

I can not believe they are not allowed to be used here in Oz.

Thing is 'I' dont really drive my vans / trucks, employees do, and although they do look after them well I really don't think they care whether its a VW or a Great wall, all they want is the $$$

Changing buisness needs brought about by the Company I contract to saw me selling sooner than I would have liked, but your right, keep the bloody things as long as you can!

I think there could be a market for cheap chinese vans, but more for the people who dont have to drive them

It looked much worst in real, than in the pictures. The pipes (I can't call it the steel tubing) looked like they went through the fire then got rusty and someone painted black (no primer was used) while they were still hot after the welding. The material looked like it was not the steel that was suiatable for welding at all.

As the poster of this thread I only put it up as nothing much gets posted on weekends so its good to generate some comments . With relation to ISOfixings I was heavily involved in the seat belt child restraint and extra seating manufacturing 12 years ago , even then there was disagreement with the powers that be about the use of them . It seems that Australian standards differed from the rest of the world , Aussie authorities calimed that the parcel shelf style restraint system was the best when I did some research in 1997 overseas I was told that whilst the Aussie standard was good there was higher degree of injury risk as opposed to the way the rest of the world installed child restraints . I left the industry in 2000 so I no longer keep up to date but I think there is still an air of scepticism from Australian designers. The money issue could be a driving factor as to change and test to satisfy ADR, is a horrendous cost , and remember every single car made and sold here must be tested .
Some times I think that regulations are somewhat out of control here nowdays a mate of mine has just imported a 2012 Toyota Tundra Crew MaxDual cab 5.7 lt , to get the thing converted is going to cost $38000 the ute cost $44000 . Now he was telling me that ADR,s will not let him use the brand new Michellin tyres here along with lights obviously wipers seat belts child restraints [yes it has ISO Fix ] I could hardly believe the list of brand new parts that have to be changed because of "our" regulations . Don,t the Ausssie regulators realise that America is just as safety concious as us . Now some one correct me if I am wrong .

you all know what i think, but i cant say it on here.

but you are right about the welds transporter. they look "unprofessional". but having spent many years welding imo that does not affect strength. im sure they would test this car in china before they sell it.
