hi guys having similar trouble with my t4. when i go to turn it on the engine starts but only for a second then turns straight off, i have lifted the fuel pump cap and can hear it running to prime when key is on accesories.
      could this be the relay?
would love some help before dropping it to mechanics

For the price of a twenty dollar relay that's where I would start first , no point wasting money at a workshop . Relay 30 from memory is the BCM power supply relay , like I said fixed mine . Its right in full view when you open the fuse box .

Sounds like the coil to me.
As Sunny says............you get the relay from VW.
              Get both 30 and 167.

Back to the OP..............the first time I had a fuel pump fail, I was fully laden and it stopped on King Georges Road in Sydney at Wiley Park..........just as the clearway started!

Took the NRMA towie an hour and a half to turn up..............boy.....did I cop some abuse!

Yeah mine decide to stop right in the middle of peak hour traffic luckily in the left lane so I just stuck it in first gear and turned the engine over and it crept forward into a car yard driveway , few minutes later she fired up again and I got home with no problem , I think I got the new relay a few days later . As the head service bloke said they could only find a fault when it happens !! but luckily a spare parts bloke heard me pleading for help as I told them the next time it could stop in the middle of an intersection . The parts bloke said they had sold a couple of the relays before so I got one right then and it never stopped again .

That first time it was the pump..........the next time it was the relays (don't know which one......changed them both.)
The last time was the pump again at about 480K.
Still going at 590k today..........although I sold it to a mate last year.

Hi ive got the same problem id rule out fuel pump but you can sheck it by taking off the fuel cap and checking the suction an racv guy told me but if all is well the hall sensor in the T4 are the biggest problem they either lose strength i the magnet or the wiring ontop of the distributor dont get contact or the actual plug gets loose like mine so my 1996vvolkswagen transporter 2.5ltr petrol 5cylinder T4 model wont start and that is con ected to the hall sensor so im going to get a whole new hall sensor i mau get a quote for a mobile auto electrician to fix it so i can see that its not just a quick fix if anyone nos where to buy the. Could you guys let me no i live in Melbourne id like to try it myself but id like a hand if anyone is interested i could help you in return regards Tristan Edwards

If you have spark pull out that spark plug and check to see if its wet
if it is wet you need to check the cam timing
If cam timing is fine then you need to do a compression test

That will give you a good idea on your issue.

Im pretty sure the t4 only ran a hall sender.
the 2.0 ran a map sensor while the later 2.5 ran a MAF
                      Whats a maf
