diesel injector problem
I have a 2002 transporter which has had problems starting and then died so its been towed to townsville dealer and they say it needs a new injector pump at $1800 plus labour costing total $3000. This is to much and was needing some advice of a cheaper alternative or cheaper pump or will just sell it as is and buy something cheaper to run

This is very unusual, pumps on these last a very long time unless the fuel has been contaminated. Is the dealer you refer to a VW dealer?
If yes you may need to get a second opinion from a diesel specialist. Prices quoted seem rather high to me.Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

No price is about right as we had a leaky pump on a 97 model and the quote for just a $20 "o" ring was around $1500 as to reco the pumps with all the enviromental issues and sterility of the pump when opened means that they have to fix the pump under clean conditions and then test them under controlled conditions for a long period of time . That was the same answer from two different diesel specialist as VW only want to sell you a whole pump they dont fix things any more these days . Apparently the reason for leaks can be attributed to changes in the additives now added to diesel fuel .Comment
