Hiccup when accerating

Have a 2005 128Kw 4Motion Multivan. Only done 77000 Km. Have noticed over the last six months that when accelerating in 4th (and possibly other gears as well) there is a slight hiccup in acceleration around 1700 Rpm. Could this be a turbo issue? Can you get the turbo serviced if needed?

Herro, you would think when accerating it would do it across the board really if it was the turbo not just in one gear?

It is probably time to have a good look at the EGR, how maybe time to clean the intercooler as well. I would suggest that it is more likely something is gummed up.

My advice would be to consider an EGR delete and a Provent oil separator at the same time as you get everything cleaned as some long term preventative maintenance.

could this "hiccup" be also described as a "shudder"? and is it ONLY at the 1700rpm? if so its unusual to have this problem at 77k. it usually doesnt hit people until 150-200k.get it plugged in to computer (while driving, not stationary).

cleaning egr is always a good thing too. give it a flogging up a hill to potentially clear sticky vanes. and see if limp mode hits.

Had similar problem with mine. Turned out that air cleaner had not clipped under lugs on LH side of air cleaner box allowing minor dust entry. Cleaned the sensor (maf ?) outboard of the air cleaner on the inlet tube RH end of air cleaner box) Been good for 80000 km and no oil usage so consider myself very lucky

I wonder is your Hiccup at the exact time a gear change happens as we occasinaly get what could be interpreted as a hiccup when our T5 changes from 4th to 5th and then down change from 5th to 4th in our case we are certain its a tranny fault as it happens some days frequently then other days not at all. Hiccup is just a momentary loss of power where acceleration drops, and only happens when in gear and not changing gears. We do tend to drive fairly conservatively, but did do a run over to the York Peninsula recently - but still not caning the engine. So I'll try for a long run soon as I'm up to a bit of a trip.
Sounds like EGR from most of replies, so I'll have a talk to local friendly mechanic. (Miro - you here?)

We do tend to drive fairly conservatively

Rod, it's a diesel, give it some stick
I also poke around relatively easily, so about once a week will pick a hill and go through a couple of gears up to 4000 rpm
Even 3000 rpm is good, if you get there very quickly

Drive from your work through the hills and push it a bit more on regular basis that should keep the turbo vanes clean. I know, it's a bit harder with the auto.
