  • Plenum Chamber Cover Removal

I was giving the van a bit of a spring clean and wanted to clean the area under the windscreen.

I tried to remove the plenum chamber cover (plastic tray under windshield) yesterday. I took off my wiper arms and unclipped the single cable clip on the passenger side. The hard bit came when I tried to remove the actual cover.

    The manual simply states:

    - remove seal (rubber strip binding plenum cover with engine bay - easy as it is simply pressed on)

    - lift water box cover (?) up on one side until clips in guide rail are released

    - carefully unclip plenum chamber cover out upwards

I only appear to have a single piece of plastic in my van. I am assuming the water box cover and plenum chamber cover are one item.

I tried lifting it, sliding it and it only budged a couple millimeters. If I applied any more pressure it felt like the plastic would crack.

    Has anyone removed it before?

Sorry cant help but if its like any thing the Germans do it could be that the clips are suicidal fitted once won,t go back again . I have experienced the worst side of engineers "great " designs and they suck big time . I fitted a sunroof to a new Amarok last week and spent nearly 1.5 hours trying to refit some idiot engineers "Great " designed interior grab handles back in . These guys seem to love making something that can only be used once , I won,t bore you with the full details except to say if I ever get hold of one of these guys I will personally show them how to fit these things inside their body . I think it is the German sense of humour showing.

It's like a constant game of chicken. Should I apply more pressure to release the clip - or will I break the trim and have to wait eight weeks for a replacement to arrive at incredible cost...

      Are you veeling lucky?

I wasn't feeling lucky and simply blasted the area with water to wash out any crud...
