Hey all. I am ging to be buying a T4 dual cab ute diesel in the next month. Can anyone tell me what I should be going for. I see there are some with 1.9, 2.4 and 2.5 diesels. How well do the 2.4 td go as the engine specs look pretty dismal (57kw - 200nm T). I have driven a 2.5 petrol late 90's T4 and found them quite torquey how do they compare. Thanks

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

T4 2.4 diesel vs 2.5 TDI - what diesel to go for.......

The 1.9 was not sold in Aust, any you might find would be a private import. The 2.4 was the only diesel engine[sold in Aust] up to 2000 when the 2.5TDI was introduced & the 2.4 was dropped. There is no comparison in performance between the two with the TDI far outshining the 2.4. The only advantage of the 2.4 as far as I am concerned is the pump timing is simpler, certainly not a reason to buy one. The purchase price will also be cheaper.Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

The 2.4 we had in my sons T4 van was great as a first car as there was no power for showing off with, it was reliable but don,t try and pass anything on a country road when travelling at 100 kays. You needed to plan ahead to overtake any one and make sure its down hill that helps , after he got his license and 12 months later we did a an engine swap fitting a 2.5 petrol what a difference.
