  • Multivan T5.2 Oil leak from Dipstick

I just had to put our Dexter into service questioning an oil leak. It's come back fixed but is listed as "oil coming form dip stick tube".

I seem to recall this was not an uncommon problem with other VW's but am a little surprised to see it after only ~37,000km/19 months.

Has anyone else seen this on the 2.0 TDI engine yet?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Not on the 2.0 but on the older 2.5. There's no gasket or O-ring under the join between the dipstick housing and the block. Fixing bolts only have to loosen of minisculey or (more likely) the sump overfilled slightly with oil and the extra pressure forces oil out through the join.

I made the mistake of tightening mine up slightly to try and fix it...and the damn thing cracked but not to my notice until the leak got worse..
