  • T5 2005 6 speed Sports Automatic Box?

    Hi Guys...................thoughts on a T5 2005 6 speed Sports Automatic box.................???'s

    1. What's the dif between a 'standard' T5 2005 Auto box and the 6 speed Sports Automatic box?

    2. Life expectancy (Ks) of a 6 speed Sports Automatic?

    3. Life expectancy (Ks) of a T5 2005 2.5L TDI if all services are done to schedule?

    4. Is buying a T5 2005 with 225Ks and a 6 speed Sports Automatic box asking for trouble??

    Thanks...........

I believe its the same gearbox, 6 Spd Auto with sport mode and tiptronic mode. That's what my 05 had and my 09 model Multivan has. Not sure how long they last, depends on servicing, and how abused they have been. Get its flushed/serviced. Its not sealed for life like VW claim LOL.

Same goes for the motor, regular service and no abuse and replacement of scheduled parts should last a while.

Asking for trouble? Maybe! Drive it, get an independent VW mechanic to check it out. If its really cheap... gearbox will cost about $7-8k roughly. Not sure what and engine will cost.

    Whats the asking price?

I had it for 3 years, had 85k on it and sold it with 165k. My trans would do the occasional shudder when changing from 2nd to 3rd. I got the trans serviced at about 120k, new filter gasket but they only drain about 4-5lts out of it, the rest of the old oil is stuck in side the box. So a year later at about 150k my mechanic got a new machine that flushes the entire contents out. Used about 14lts of new trans fluid to flush it but it made a real improvement.

I'm going to flush my 09 at 45k, then every 45k.

The engine in the 05 never missed a beat. Possibly had a cracked exhaust manifold but that is common. Cabin fan burnt out and needed to be replaced and the driver door latch broke but I fixed that myself.

We have had both our T5s since 2005/06the first one is the 2.5 TDI with six speed triptronic we got one of the first ones in Qld . The other one is 2006 T5 2.0 petrol manual . The TDI had water pump failure at around 80.000 engine wise it has been fairly uneventful no cracked manifolds etc only a nuisance intercooler pipe which came off when the van backfired a couple times in quick succesion { possible dirty fuel} replaced side door rollers real bummer . The auto has had a couple of hiccups and after reading IVO,s experience I am hoping a full service will cure ours , it seems to have an intermitent fault where it gives a couple of thumps when changing down through 4 th gear 5th is fine and 3rd is fine so whatever it is is when in 4th gear . Some days its perfect then five minutes later it starts again and then stops . It now has 125.000 ks , My T5 2.0 litre has never failed any part, had water pump and cam belt done at 110.000 ks and thats it . The crazy part is that mine160.000 has done more hard ks and the side door rollers are perfect but the other family used van its roller fell apart at 80.000ks . Howard
