  • Wheel alignment camber

Since putting alloys on the van, I have noticed that it pulls ever so slightly to the left. I went into pedders today to see about checking the wheel alignment. He asked me what the car was, and as soon as I said a vw, he asked if its pulling to the left. Then he said, that a lot of euro cars these days don't have camber adjustment, but that he had some offset nylon bushes that would fix it up (he showed me these, and its offset on one bush.) $450 to get it done and aligned. Anybody got any experience with this issue? Its a bit of money to do, and i'm not sure if its worth doing, or just get a little less time out of my tres from them scrubbing slightly.

I would get another opinion as it sounds a bit sus to me . We have fitted alloys to both our T5,s with no problems whatsoever . Check tyre pressure and also I suppose it would be wise to make sure the offset is within tolerance . Howard

True about the camber adjustment, but its the Toe that usually is out and plays the biggest role here. Bushes don't correct geometry, they can change it tho...

I don't know much about the T5 (asside from having driven one), but if there is differing camber, there is probably a reason, even if its just to compensate for the slant of the roads.

my van pulled to the left with 17" steels, I got it lowered at my shop and they did 4 wheel alignment. straight as an arrow now. alloys go on this arvo and they will re-track next week. will let you know if it pulls.

on a lighter note, 4x17" steels will be available next week.

OK, i'll take it in and just see what they say about the toe. I've been trying to picture how wider wheels could affect the alignment, but even if they change the track, I wouldn't have thought it could change the toe. (it was aligned a week before the wheel change when I got my suspension done) Maybe its just that there is more rubber on the road making the slight camber issue more noticable?

check your tires are on the correct way round. I put 2 of mine on the wrong way.

My MY11 started pulling to the left at 2000km's so I took it to a local tyre place for wheel alignment. They told me the right hand camber was out and there was no adjustment.

Took it to the dealer and showed them the wheel alignment printout. Apparently these clowns don't have the right data in their wheel alignment system. Just needed toe adjustment by dealer. Now all good.

How a large tyre chain which is in the business of selling tyres and doing wheel alignments cannot get it right is beyond me.
