dmf
has anyone had a dmf go. i got an '04 t5 transporter 128 tdi 170k manual. lately im getting something like vibration (more than before) and ive heard that if dmf goes it destroys gearbox. so mayby better to just change it before it causes damage. but it seems a shame just to change something just for the hell of it if it is ok. how can i tell?

Have a look in this thread.
And get it properly diagnosed by mechanic before you replace it, try contacting gldgti if he could have a look at it.Last edited by Transporter; 12-10-2010, 06:28 PM.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

Did we all replace water pump at 80,000kms.
I'm just wondering, if there is anyone that didn't have the typical water pump failure at 80,000 km's.

Leaking water pump is common on T5 with AXD and AXE engines, however I have a few friends with T5's that now done over 100,000km's and they still have the original water pump.
For your own information the leaking water pumps are also common on some models Holden Astra, Barina and it is recommended to replace them at 60,000km's together with the timing belt. It is one expensive job.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

Its more to do with the fact that the pumps are driven by the timing belt and cost $100. Better and easier to replace it when the timing belt is off, than go back again in the near future.
The factory pumps have plastic impellors which crack apart. We always use german aftermarket pumps which have metal impellors for a better fix.
Got a T5 1.9TDI in the shop at the moment which did 300,000ks without a belt change! It then snapped and destroyed the engine.
They have been getting it serviced at ultratune, who apparently did not tell them it needed to be done. Used engine trade price was $7500!sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

Flexible couplings at 120,000km.
Look at the water pump cover for the spanner markings on the 3 bolts.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link

T5's with AXD and AXE have timing gears, they're maintenance free. The water pump is easy to replace, the repair cost is high when the pump leaks coolant onto the oil and engine oil and oil filter have to be changed. Replacing w. pump as preventative measure should be cheaper. But, I wouldn't do it.Last edited by Transporter; 23-10-2010, 06:29 PM.Performance Tunes from $850Wrecking RS OCTAVIA 2 Link
