    my mehanic says he has no idea what to do. he is not genuine vw. i have since spoken to 3 genuine vw service ppl and they think %13 diesel is inside normal peramiters and would still cosinder an electrical/pump problem. the thought crossed my mind, what if mechanic didnt change the oil and its been there for 20k and stuffing the test.
    decided to get genuine vw people to check the problem for electric and fuel pressure problems and take it from there. cant get in until july though but they said ok to wait the month.

      still trying to work out my problem. had sump tested and it has %13.5 diesel. though dipstick hasnt changed and 4 vw workshops said this is ok. had air mass sensor, fuel filter, and crank speed sensor changed and still the same. wondering if i should check injector seals but vw say not to but they have no ideas what to even try now, if anything.
      also wondering if fuel pump in petrol tank could be faulty and diesel returning to tank.

          new motor cost?

          i have an 04 t5 2.5 tdi. i have reason to believe that the engines about to **** itself and wondering what worst case cost could be. low k's, new or rebuild mine. thinking about getting rid of it before it happens but if it wasnt for all thier problems then i like the t5, but they are such a money pit. and new engine would mean i think id be better off pushing it over a cliff.

              can try, already had it assesd though by 3 vw workshops and 1 independant. they all said the same thing, they have no idea whats even wrong with it. and dont know what to try.

                My old t5 multivan its at pickles auctions, it should come up soon.

                before the accident she was very healthy with only 42,000k.

                the engine was not hit in the accident, she could be a good donor.

                        tandem pump

                        my tandem pump is showing 1 bar pressure whther idling or reved. been told to change it. has anyone changed it before and if so why. can there be another reason why tandem pump has no pressure

                            I would make sure that the reading comes from the right port, it looks like the return fuel pressure was measured instead, which is correct at 1 BAR at idle or above the idle.

                            I would check the flow and pressure after the filter to be sure before replacing any component.

                              i believe it doesnt unless its seriously blocked. it is a good thought though. fuel filter was changed recently but thats no garantee that its not blocked. i would still have to think since tandem pump has done 200k and fuel filter about 2 k, which didnt change starting problem symptoms, then tandem pump could be shot. i think it makes more sense than head or injector problem

                              it was vw that done the test, so i would hope they know which port. does erwin tell them that. they may not know though because they didnt even know how to check fuel pressure until i told them

                                anyone opened up a tandem pump

                                i got vw to change the tandem pump on my 2.5 04 180k. it was showing 1 bar regardless of revs. i took it home and pulled it open. i realised its not only pumping diesel but it is also pumping oil, either to or from the brake booster. i can see the reason it was only showing 1 bar is it has 2 small springs which when broken wont allow pressure to increase, and would remain at 1 bar (cant drop to zero) until fixed. i can see that because its also an oil pump then there is not much stopping oil and diesel mixing on either side. i could see wear in the oil pumping part though i dont think this would affect anything, but wear in the diesel side could allow diesel to be diluted with metal particles.(so small though i think they would combust if entering chamber). i am wondering though, why does the brake booster need oil, and where does the oil go after being pumped there, as there is no other hose for the oil to go back to engine. after pulling open tandem pump, i will always be replacing mine at 150k regardless of if its working right or not.

                                has anyone else opened up one of these and what are your thoughts on it?
