  • Parking a van, height problems??

We are away at the moment in Canberra (so many VW's, so few VWWC stickers) and went to park at Civic only to find the car park is maximum 2m :O

Now being the new multivan is 1.99m i was a little hesitant to go in and found alternative outside parking. It's some thing have been conscious of and have noticed most carparks that I have been in have been 2.1 or 2.2m clearance. Have I just been lucky or am in for more trouble?

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Most of the carparks up in Brisbane are around 2.1m.

Sounds like an opportunity for H&R springs

You'd be surprised where they'll fit, Hawk.

Found myself driving into a multi storey car park, in a 06 Multivan, with height limit of 1.9
Started backing out, and the Chinese attendant kept waving saying "you no worrees".
Got even more worried when I took his advice and drove 'into' the overhead height limit, then listened to it dragging over the roof!

Drove bloody carfully, one ramp had an overhead beam halfway up, found out later that was the one that might have got me.

Was a little less worried coming out, but I fit!

Don't know how accurate it was, but it was a damn sight lower than the 2 and 2.1 car parks I go into.

      So you'll be right

Multivan height unladen is 1970mm, you should be right to go under 2m carparks. I had a low roof transporter for the weekend and had no trouble in the 2m carpark at Northland

I use a park in the city that is 2010, I still duck going under the beams??
You also notice the ramps and wonder if they took the measurement around them??
Just lowered mine 50 mm on the weekend so I shouldn't have any problems now

For what it's worth, the big Bruce Bishop Car Park in central Surfers Paradise is ok (lopsided entry height bar is a worry but you clear it) but stick to the level you drive in on. Don't know about the lower levels.

We have the VW roof racks on our MV, and it still fits into 2.06 metres - but it looks VERY close.
I am amazed at where we do fit. Went into a park the other day that was 2 metres - with the racks on, and we still fitted into most spaces in the park. However, there was also a few spaces we would not fit into ...

My real problem is the way in which you would find out you dont fit...

I once dorve into a Melb CBD carpark that advertised 2.36M min height.....what i failed to realise was that this referred to the entry and the driving lanes through the carpark. I managed to reverse into a spot only to hear someone shout stop just as I knicked the left corner of the top of the left wing door on an overhead fire water supply pipe. I use the mobile phone external antenna attached to the windscreen as a guide now. I've angled it back so it sits about 5cm above the roof line and if it hits I duck my head, lol.
