  • Extended warranty purchase on T5's

I hope the mods don't mind as the existing threads are full of Golf, Polo, Passat prices, rather than T5 owners. I purchased the VW Australia/Allianz Insurance Volkswagen Extended New Vehicle Warranty Insurance 3yrs/60,000 km policy today for $1895 (prem. was $1500, rest was stamp duty and gst) which was considerably less then the initial price given to me back in January this year for $2200. Not cheap however I'm happy to know I can keep it longer, gain more equity and trade up while still offering the warranty to a new owner should I sell privately.

I looked at the VW insurance and was comparing it to an alternative offered through Swan Insurance by the Bayford VW in Melbourne. For less money (it was only $100, but still less) you get basically the same warranty but up to 200,000km.

Also reading the PDS the VW insurance seems to leave a lot of questions unanswered... like exactly how much they cover, is it market or purchase? Is it per incident or aggregate? Over the whole life or only the extended life? I rang the number listed in the PDS you can download form the VW site and the guy I spoke to didn't know anything at all about the policy, seriously, nothing.

Also not it's "Up to 160,000km" OR 60,000km from the end of the 3yr manufacturers warranty, whatever comes first. So if you do 50,000 in three years, the extended warranty is only good up to 110,000km.

In the end I was far far more comfortable with the alternative.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Sorry The_Hawk, are you talking about full comprehensive motor vehicle accident insurance or new car warranty extension? The Swan extended new car warranty is considerably less then VW company/Allianz cover however I decided to go this way as the policy details are automatically passed over to the service department and they will treat my van as though it is brand new once the policy commences from 9 July. The cover replicates the original new car warranty according to the PDS provided I maintain the vehicle according to the routine service requirements.

Talking about the extended warranty and it supposedly does exactly the same thing as VW's Alliance one.

Sorry, I should clarify, when I stated the Swan insurance was considerably less I meant cost to purchase and not coverage. My quote from Bayford VW for Swan policy was
          $835 for 12mnths/100,000km &
$1400 for 24mnth/200,000km both with $100 excess, wheres the VW/Allianz offer is
$1895 for 36months/60,000km, no excess. So I get one more year with less Km however time coverage is more relevant to my situation than distance.

Anyone made a warranty extension purchase in the new financial year? My factory warranty expires in a month...

On a similar vein I just received some quotes for my comprehensive insurance:
            - 65% no claim bonus
            - $720/yr
            - $30K insured value for a fully kitted Kombi Beach with less than 30K km on the clock...

My comprehensive insurance for myT5 Multivan was $1800 with AAMI, and $1,000 with Budget Direct, and even cheaper with Youi. Go figure ...
We stayed with BD for this year, but next year I will have a good look around.
              Golf V TDI 2005 - SOLD
              Volvo C30 D5 - I've got a hat as well!
              Multivan Highline T5 TDI 4Motion 2005
              Hond Civic VTI 2001

My comprehensive insurance for my 2008 T5 Multivan (comfortline) is about $800 a year with Allianz $66 per month.

Gees - I don't feel too bad now. What was the insured value though?

MultiplexMan, for the first two years, brand new vehicle replacement if it is written off. After that I can't recall in the policy if it agreed or market value. Mine is almost two years old. Cheers, Scott

Well I've collected heaps of quotes now.

For my 3 year old Kombi Beach, the lowest market value was $29K the highest agreed value was $39K.

No two quotes are exactly the same making an "apples to apples" comparison impossible.

It is all pretty frustrating and either way it's going to be expensive!

I should have mentioned mine has windscreen cover included. A wise move given the rain sensor pad!

Also Rating 1, no claim bonus and $500 excess.

                        Cheers, Scott

Even though this thread started out as warranty extension, I will give my details on comprehensive insurance.

2009 Caravelle, comprehensive, rating one, NCB, $500 excess, over 25yo drivers, and windscreen cover with RACV for $550/year!
