Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • watercooled engine mountings for combi

does any body know if u can some how adapt a 16v golf lump on to a combi or beetal gear box, ive seen i 1600 8v on the back of a off road buggie once and was wondering if a 16v conversion is possible, why, because i just might consider doing up a combi with a 16v donk, should be sweet if possible
and would u need to make new engine mounts? or are there kits for this sorta thing, any info would be super

I think you need to talk to stijn, I got some 16 V parts from him several years ago, he does a load of crazy mods...

that is the 16 V into a notchback, so he must know something about hooking up a watercooler to a type 1, 2 or 3 transaxle...

    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

The blocks and engine mounting points are the same on 8v and 16v motors, so if an 8v is possible, so therefore, should a 16v. Why you would waste such an engine on a vehicle like that I dunno, but good luck.

hi guys when i first visited the vw motorsport factory they were fitting brand new vr6 and 16v motors in the back of 4x4 tranporter t3's it was a very costly exercise by german standards then but a hell of a lot more affordable today...my brother runs a 2.0 16v in his off road buggy which is married to a 2.0 litre kombi box stuffed full of different ratios...goes hard all day long and doesn't complain[the ideal woman] cheers steve

yeah ive seen a karman ghia with a 3.2L porshe motor in it using a porshe box though, that required a massive conversion but made it go like the clappers, ive recently found some one who does this sorta work in quenbeyan called "progress motors" these guys are good they run a rally evo 7 and GT3's cup cars and stuff, , they can get all the parts i need no worrys just waiting on a price or he tried to convince me he wanted to build all the adapters and respray and smooth the body etc etc and he was keen as then he said there will be a 3 month waiting period, wooooo dude i havnt evn got the van yet so yeah if ny body want to give me free stuff this is where im going to get it done as it is real close,

commodore engine! sweet... V8 or six? the 8 would be crazy and tuff in a van

would u have to streaghten the 2lt vw box or is swapping the gears satirsfactory does any body know what clutch to use?

i checked out that notch back link (roccodingo) thats what i want but in a combi and EFi still sweet, ,he bought it with the motor allready in and mounted up, surely it cant be that hard, its only a engine!!!!!! right.

we put a 6 in the kombi
we also put a rotor in a type 3 squareback matched to a standard box with a 3000lb clutch (runs off the speedo in 2nd gear apparently)

I ran a 1.8 16v in my 62 single cab for years until I found my caddy. It ran late T2 irs and disc front end. Everthing from the engine mounts to the radiator and plumbing has to be fabricated.Ther are some pics around of it at Wakefield on a Porsche sprint day, lots of fun.
